Stuka Ace - Hans-Ulrich Rudel: Greatest Combat Pilot of all Time

Took my kids here Chanute Air Museum years ago. They were bored out of their minds.
I was pouring over everything. They're like "what's the big deal".

I explained that each and every airplane was designed and built for a purpose. If one failed, they learned from it and built a better one.

Cool museum BTW.

Oh yeah- funny story. Chanute planted rope-grade hemp back in the day. It was still growing well into the 70's.

So my brother would hop the fence, cut down all he could carry, then sell it.

I turned a few pounds for him but only smoked it once. It was like lawn clippings. Oofah.

So, what was the fascination with worshiping Nazi criminals?

Say what you like about the Third Reich and the German armed forces, but they were the last truly threatening adversary Britain and America have been to war with. They were a force to be reckoned with that had London and Washington shitting themselves with fear.

You don't have to like them, but you can't ignore the fact that they rolled over Europe in just six months, bloodied the nose of the world's most powerful empire and pimp-slapped Stalin all the way to Moscow. All after they were reduced to ashes twenty years prior. Cool uniforms, too.

Johnnie Johnson top British Ace of WWll

Air Vice Marshal James Edgar "Johnnie" Johnson CB, CBE, DSO & Two Bars, DFC & Bar (9 March 1915 – 30 January 2001) was a Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot who, during the Second World War, claimed 34 individual victories over enemy aircraft, as well as seven shared victories, three shared probables, 10 damaged, three shared damaged and one destroyed on the ground. Johnson flew 700 operational sorties engaging enemy aircraft on only 57 occasions. Included in his list of indvidual victories were 14 Messerschmitt Bf 109s and 20 Focke-Wulf Fw 190s destroyed making him the most successful RAF ace against the Fw 190.

This score made him the highest scoring Western Allied fighter ace against the German Luftwaffe, thus becoming the British, and Western Allied flying ace with the greatest number of victories in the European War.

Reduced to ashes? The German army was still in the field IN FRANCE at the end of WWI. The country was not invaded and cities and factories were not destroyed, though they had done that in France.

The Nazis leave absolutely nothing to admire. The insanity with which their soldiers fought should be a warning to all just how easily young men can be led to extremes. REAL dick heads!

If we really believe in choice and individual responsibility, we are confronted by the uncomfortable reality that soldiers who participate in illegal wars are war criminals.

A US soldier swears to uphold the Constitution, not a policy or a politician. International laws and treaties approved by Congress come under the Constitution. A soldier ordered to commit unconstitutional acts is obliged to refuse.

Any human, soldier or otherwise, has a higher duty than obedience to a 'superior'.

"A US soldier swears to uphold the Constitution, not a policy or a politician."

And not "International laws and treaties...". Nor can Congress by itself alter the Constitution.

Did the Nazis invent physics and science?

Glad to see someone in total agreement.

To me a combat ace is one that mixes it up with other fighter pilots... Not vehicles parked on the ground.

Uniforms designed by Hugo Boss dontcha know:eusa_shhh:

Hans-Ulrich Rudel was not a fighter pilot and flew the Stuka.

The Stuka was a dive bomber and a combat ground support plane.

That's the difference..........

so? I would say that air to air combat is a great deal more challenging especially when you are in an aircraft like the 109 vs say a Mustang....

Those nazi bastards kept fabulous records. The alleged ace claims 9 aircraft but was shot down 32 times. It sounds like a cartoon character.

Sunni Man makes a strong case for Rudel but as was already pointed out by Trajan, Erich Hartmann was the greatest combat Ace ever.

The man was running out of space on his plane to put kill markings on!

Hands down the best aviatrix in history was Hanna Reitsch.

She was Germany's premier test pilot and first woman to fly a helicopter and a jet plane.

Hanna Reitsch (29 March 1912 – 24 August 1979) was a German aviator and the only woman awarded the Iron Cross First Class and the Luftwaffe Combined Pilots-Observation Badge in Gold with Diamonds during World War II. She set over forty aviation altitude and endurance records during her career, both before and after World War II, and several of her international gliding records still stand in 2012.
