Sounds like Kent State all over again

Tea Party rallies never required riot police or hazmat crews to cleanup up the mess.

Most Tea Party protests are one shot deals, usually with the proper permits applied for. Alot of thier rallys are also in far more open areas, not in the downtowns of major cities.

There is a difference between a one shot protest march, and a continued occupation of a public space. At that point you are denying the rest of the public the use of said space.

Once the announcement has made that the officals want you to disperse, you have 3 options. Leave, get arrested, or fight back.

This is not suppression of opinion, thier opinions have been noted. Suppresion would require the PREVENTION of their opinions from being heard. Those protesters who want to keep pushing can try to re-occupy the public area, or move to another and continue on.

And they also got permits to be in the places they went to (many OWS protests have no permits) and did not violate the terms of the permits (of the few that did get permits many have violated the terms)

Is it really free speech if you need to get the governments permission to engage in it?

Hey, dumb shit, you don't need a permit to speak freely... you need a permit to gather en-masse and take to the streets thus disrupting the rest of society.

Do try and keep up.

Well, the free speech of political donations is surely more important than the free speech of protests. ;)

Good question. its all about a balance between a large groups right to protest, and others rights to keep using public streets, parkland, plaza's etc.

Again, there is no suppression of the speech, you can still show up without a permit, and you will be heard, you will just run the risk of spending some time in a jailcell.

Each american can still say whatever you want, whenever you want, whereever you want. (dont forget some things, such as racially charged speech when you hold a public office, can have consequences but consequences don't equal squashing of liberty)

Its just if you want to have a large event you need permits. that is a local/state law not a federal thing. If you don't like that then work within the system to change the law.

Also the right to PEACEFULLY assemble does not equal the right to destroy public property or be violent by tossing bottles at police.

Ah, yes......the rest of society.....those folks who find it more-convenient to stand-around and watch everyone-else doing all the (actual) work.

Fuck the rest of society. They've always been dead-weight, anyhow.

For it to be Kent state, there would have to be National Guardsmen, and dead protesters, neither of which were found in these two locations.
That was the end of Kent State, not the beginning.

From what I am reading about these protesters, I dont think they have the stomach to push it to the level Kent State reached. Modern police forces are also far more capable of handling unarmed protesters than in the 60's.

We havent even gotten to the fire hoses and attack dog level yet.

And it never will. Thees OWS protesters are pikers compared to those from the 60's. The hippies believed in what they were saying, and dedicated to there cause. They took there beatings, and went through training to be beaten and not get killed from it. Thees OWS guys are soft little mammas boys and girls. little rich kids with to much spare time on there hands. Then there are the cops. The cops have all the agitators names and photos on hand. They got them first, and shot tho rest of the pusses with gas to run the little roaches off. I feel Oakland and Atlanta PD deserve kudos for a job well done.

Organizers had instructed participants to be peaceful if arrests came, and most were. Many gathered in the center of the park, locking arms, and sang We Shall Overcome until police led them out, one-by-one to waiting buses. Some were dragged out while others left on foot, handcuffed with plastic ties.

Oakland was less peaceful. Police fired tear gas and beanbag rounds as they cleared out the makeshift city Tuesday. After nightfall, protesters gathered at a downtown library and began marching toward City Hall in an attempt to re-establish a presence in the area of the disbanded camp.

They were met by police in riot gear. Officers cleared the area by firing tear gas over a roughly three-hour stretch of evening scuffles.

Unlike Kent State, the idiot protestors are still alive.

Hey scumbag, congratulations, I am surprised somebody with such a severe learning disability like your self is able to type on a computer, you should be proud of such an accomplishment.

Were a fascist nation. Nothing those OWS people say or do will have any effect untill people die. Then we will choose if we want to keep killing the 'socialits' or if we want to actually listen to what they have to say about the rampant corruption, cronyism, inequality, and domestic enemies.

Thats just the way it is

It sounds like you are advocating violence.

Perhaps people do hear what they are saying and just disagree, is that hard for you to believe??

If it's a Tea Party group being accosted, then that's a travesty.
Yeah.....taking advantage of the developmentally-disabled would be kind o' cruel.
