Well, this is the Feedback forum:

Anyone agree with me that it's ridiculous to have over 30 separate discussion forums, for a board that appears to have less than 20 regular posters? And that constantly moving threads and merging them with other threads is not only unneccessary, but confusing? I really don't think a board with maybe 20 regular posters is in danger of cluttering up the board with excessive posts on any given topic. And having so many different forums, and having so many threads deleted and merged with other threads is a tad too much micromangagment in my opinion. I show up looking for a thread I was debating on, and it's gone or buried somewhere else.

My feedback, is that given the relatively sparse amount of posters here, and the relatively inconsequential amount of new threads put up every day, this board really only needs like three or four forums.

But, that's just my feedback, for the feedback forum. Whatever.

If people would stop posting new topics on the same subjects that are already being discussed in other topics, they wouldn't get merged.

I agree though, having a Politics and an Election 08 board seems senseless. Personally, anything dealing with the election or the candidates should belong in the latter, but the topic about Palin was moved to the Politics forum. So that is quite confusing.

:eusa_think: I think we need another catagory up here in the Announcements and Feedback :eusa_shifty:

It could be titled "Time Out"! Gunny and the mods could put posters, like myself, that :meow: up here with a :banned03: by our name, and we can not post until they let us out!

Obviously, you ain't been here that long. This board gets upwards around 700+ posts a day, if not more.
Edit: There's also 37 regular posters just in the daily caller list. That does not include, at a minimum, 3 board loudmouths that are on daily, and "invisible".

Here's some feedback for you:

If there was ONE forum and 5 regular posters, I would merge a dozen posts all saying the same damned thing.

We're averaging over 1000 posts a day. That's a lot of posts for 20 regular posters. Methinks your math is incorrect.

If you want to post on a board with only 3-4, forums, feel free to create or find one. This board with only 3-4 forums would be a colossal clusterfuck.

I'd suggest if you only need 3-4 forums, then restrict yourself to 3-4 forums.

Oh, and the ONLY threads EVER actually deleted are spam.

The purpose of the election forum was to separate election issues from general political issues. They are not mutually inclusive.

I can restrict members to individual forums. Already an option.

No worries, it's not my board. You have a thread for feedback, so I gave you my feedback.

I was just noticing that it seems like about half the forums here get like 6 posts a month.

A bit of a different statement than your original. I agree there are some forums that probably could be combined with others. Apply Murphy's Law to that. The second I go to change something like that, someone will post in it.

Also, you haven't been here all that long. Some forums are relatively new, to see if they will catch on. The election 2008 forum for instance is won't last much beyond the election.

What you aren't doing, IMO, is applying the "one man's trash is another man's treasure" principle. If I go on a message board for instance, and everything is crammed into 3-4 forums of page after page of threads I have to look at, I wo't stay long. The opposite side of the coin is going to a board with a 30 subforums that have to be searched through as if they're threads in a subforum.

I'm trying to maintain a happy medium.

Don't knock invisibility mode. I want people to think I'm not around. And then when they think it's safe to post some crazy shite, boooom, beyatch, I'm in yo' face. That's how I roll, dog.

You're hardly my definition of a "loudmouth".

careful, I was threatened with banishment for saying much the same thing. It's their board, they can do as they like, including moving things around and even burying them in a read only thread because they don't like the content, true or not.

Who threatened you?

I think board managment is doing a perfect job.

Totally ship shape. Absolutely four-O.

Why, when internet historians finally write the complete and unabridged history of discussion boards, this board will serve as the model from whence all other boards will be judged.

I'd continue in this vein of high praise, but if I did my nose would grow so long that I fear it'd smash my monitor.

Use the New Posts feature, and then the whole issue of rooms is irrelevant to the user.

Basically, I agree with you, Red Dawn, but as Gunny said, if he removed some rooms, other people would demand that they be replaced.

Of course, Gunny's completely wrong about this place not needing a:

" Why editec is the best thing to ever happen to this board"

room, because it's clear to me that the public is clamoring for a room specifically devoted to singing my praise...

.. but, all in all, the managment of the place doesn't entirely suck.

not to sound like an ass kisser but I've been on message boards for probably 8+ years ranging in various topics from music and television to social and politics.

This is one of the best run boards I've ever participated in.
