I think there is some human nature to rooting for the underdog. Perhaps because it makes a more exciting story. Perhaps because folks always see their own problems more easily than the problems of others. I don't know.

For myself I have a moderate concern of monopolies and the power large corporations wield politically thanks to their pocket books.

The following seem to be a wash.

Both small and big businessmen do dishonest things in the name of their business they wouldn't do in their personal life..........

Small business is more responsive to change if they can afford it, big business levels the field with economics of scale to their advantage....

In the process of hating "Big Oil", thousands of small independent and mostly family owned operators suffer the economic and political consequences. It's ignorance pure and simple.

Because Boeing's success is mostly due to the govt taking your tax dollars and giving it to them. The only benefit you get is a $700 plane ticket to go see family 3 states away.
OH. That and "defending your FreeDumb" AKA bombing nations into the stone age for resources so you can go to Walmart and buy neato stuff to put in your house trailers.

Apple, Like Microshit, is a real company, started by a real person, making something that helps make life easier.So are many other big boys like Honda, Toyota,Evinrude, Caterpillar, Kawasaki, John Deere, Toro,Maytag, Whirlpool,Levi, Woolrich,Sears, Motorola,etc. You don't hear any bitching about them.

Farmers are paid, with your tax dollars , not to farm so 4 corporations can control the worlds food supply and charge whatever they want to.

EVIL corporations are those in bed with Pure Evil. The US of falling Empires so called govt. More a cartel/mafia than anything else.

If Murray's Shoe Store in Ambridge, Pennsylvania decides to close and move its operations to Bangladesh, six of seven people would be tossed out of work.

When Jones and Laughlin Steel makes the same decision, 5,000 people will be tossed out of work, the retail businesses in town die as a result, property values in town plummet and Sal's Shoe store (which was down the street from Murray's) doesn't stand a chance.

When Murray's Shoe Store in Ambridge, Pennsylvania wants to improve the sidewalk in front of the store, Murray goes to City Council to plead his case.

When Jones and Laughlin Steel wants to purge its annealing tanks into the Ohio River, they get their lobbying group to grease the USEPA and then the river dies.

Small business are generally more humane, community minded.

Big businesses have been known to destroy without regard to humanity and we are human.

I neither love or hate Apple or Boeing so can't comment on that one.

Building on your excellent analogy, if Murray's Shoe Store objects to a new WalMart in town because it will be the demise of his business, guess who will win? And guess who will close his doors soon thereafter, along with Sarah's Boutique, Annie's Book Store, and the sandwich shop where all those employees of small stores ate lunch?
