10. An argument can be made that there are gradations of evil, and that a degree of evil can be excused based on proportinality.


Take the dropping of Atomic Bombs on two of Japan's cities has often been cited as 'evil'…and who can question that conclusion….

a. how many American soldiers were saved?

c. the two cities were not bombed simultaneously….but days apart, allowing the rulers of Japan to assume responsibility for the second bombing.




The fact of searching for an excuse for the atomic bombs is, by itself, is it an attempt to assuage if not excuse the 'evil' of the event?
