Should We Be Excusing Evil?

8. So, then….the title: "Excusing Evil"….can we?
Does having a practical reason for murder absolve one of either guilt or responsibility?

Well, yes and no: the human mind is infinitely capable of rationalization. We can always come up with reasons that weigh in the direction we want the outcome to be.

That is the greatest flaw in the French Revolution, and the age of the Enlightenment: it was imagined that we could replace the restrictions of religion and morality with reason and science.
The difference was that morality, as depicted in the Bible, was the result worked out over millennia as the result of human interactions and experience.
Relying on any one person's judgment is simply pretense and word games, that end with what is best for that individual.
That's subjective morality, we call it 'reason.'

a. As a result, France became a slaughterhouse, and the revolution gave birth to communism and Nazism: the almighty state.

b. Even when we trust the smartest among us to be 'objective'….they aren't. Take the scientists who accept beaucoup bucks to test 'global warming,' knowing full well that if they find it to be bogus, the money stream ends.

And, hidden as 'peer review,' we get this:
"Scholarly journal retracts 60 articles, smashes ‘peer review ring’"

You're serious????

Yes, your quoting someone.. and referring to a website.

Are you blind, or just stupid?

The link is in the passage you quoted.
More personal insults....of the "implying the poster is stupid" type.

And?
And....it's obvious you have an intellectual self-esteem issue.

9. How can we find a standard against which to measure our actions?
Already done:
The Bible is the wisdom of the West. It is from the precepts of the Bible that the legal systems of the West have been developed- systems, worked out over millennia, for dealing with inequality, with injustice, with greed, reducible t that which Christians call the Golden Rule, and the Jews had propounded as “That which is hateful to you, don not do to your neighbor.”
David Mamet, "The Secret Knowledge."

In “The Fatal Conceit: The Errors of Socialism,” Hayek explains the primary conceit, that the human mind can a) conceive, and b) implement a better way of accomplishing a process than the one worked out over millennia by a mechanism more suited to the task than the human mind….that process being the interaction of human beings, each of whom wants something from the other, and all of whom must live together.

I’ve long believed that the true value of Liberalism to its adherents is the demand that they never be judged for their actions. Being a Liberal means that you never have to answer for nor take responsibility for ones actions, with this result:

“…CDC report reveals that for the eighth straight year, more than 40 percent of births occurring in the U.S. have been to unmarried women — that’s more than 1.6 million annually. To put that into perspective, unwed births jumped from 3.8 percent in 1940 to 10 percent in 1969; then they doubled to 20.3 percent by 1983 and grew to 30.1 percent by 1992. Since 2008, the percentage has ranged from a low of 40.2 percent to a high of 40.8 percent in 2010. Since then, it has gradually and marginally declined but has remained above 40 percent (40.2 percent in both 2014 and 2015).” The Consequences of Single-Mother Households

Is this effect on the children ‘evil’?

Then, why is the Democrat government excusing it?

10. An argument can be made that there are gradations of evil, and that a degree of evil can be excused based on proportinality.

Take the dropping of Atomic Bombs on two of Japan's cities has often been cited as 'evil'…and who can question that conclusion….
"Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. The two atomic bombs dropped on Japan in 1945 killed and maimed hundreds of thousands of people, and their effects are still being felt today."
Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings | ICAN

If one were to look at civilian victims alone, including second generation victims, well, I can see applying 'evil' to the episode.

But there are other considerations:
a. how many American soldiers were saved?
b. the fact that warning leaflets were dropped first...
and….most significant
c. the two cities were not bombed simultaneously….but days apart, allowing the rulers of Japan to assume responsibility for the second bombing.

The fact of searching for an excuse for the atomic bombs is, by itself, is it an attempt to assuage if not excuse the 'evil' of the event?

"Evil', may be transformed into either an unavoidable lesson or, seen as subjective self-righteousness.”
Lance Morrow

Or, it may not be evil, but something else entirely....... the result of a rational evaluation of all possibilities.

Could be?

For purposes of clarity, and, as the issue of guns has been brought into the conversation, it is essential to note in the context of evil that it was Hussein Obama who made it possible for Nikolas Cruz to obtain guns.

The following is indisputable:

a. "The [Obama] Justice Department already has sued school districts in Florida, South Carolina and Mississippi for implementing allegedly racist disciplinary policies."
Holder's Anti-Discipline Push May Threaten Students | Stock News & Stock Market Analysis - IBD

b. "The Obama-era Departments of Education and Justice – under education secretary Arne Duncan and Attorney General Eric Holder –issued school guidelines in 2014 that claimed students of color are “disproportionately impacted” by suspensions and expulsions, a situation they said leads to a “school-to-prison pipeline” that discriminates against minority and low-income students.

According to the Obama administration’s 2014 “Dear Colleague” guidance, any school district whose disciplinary measures showed “disparate impact” – meaning a disproportionately greater number of minority students are affected – is open to investigation by [Obama] the Departments of Justice and Education, regardless of whether the behavior leading to the discipline is unacceptable."
Broward County Likely ‘Inspiration’ for Obama School Discipline Policy to Report Fewer Arrests, Suspensions | Breitbart

c. "Cruz assaulted students, cursed out teachers, kicked in classroom doors, started fist fights, threw chairs, threatened to kill other students, mutilated small animals, pulled a rifle on his mother, drank gasoline and cut himself, among other "red flags."
Threatening to kill someone is a felony. In addition to locking Cruz away for a while, having a felony record would have prevented him from purchasing a gun.
Cruz was never arrested. He wasn't referred to law enforcement. He wasn't even expelled."

d. Obama warned schools not to discipline school children, no matter their actions, if they were members of an authorized minority....meaning, the group voted Democrat.
As a result, Nikolas Cruz was given a pass....multiple passes.....and that unblemished record allowed him to avoid being identified as a possible homicidal maniac.

f. This primitive, stone-age thinking was made official Broward County policy in a Nov. 5, 2013, agreement titled "Collaborative Agreement on School Discipline."

The first "whereas" clause of the agreement states that "the use of arrests and referrals to the criminal justice system may decrease a student's chance of graduation, entering higher education, joining the military and getting a job."

The agreement's third "whereas” clause specifically cites "students of color" as victims of the old, racist policy of treating criminal behavior criminally.'"

Obama, Liberal policies that favor criminals, was responsible for the massacre....not the NRA.

"Broward County adopted a lenient disciplinary policy similar to those adopted by many other districts under pressure from the Obama administration to reduce racial ‘disparities’ in suspensions and expulsions,” said Peter Kirsanow, a black conservative on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights in Washington. "In many of these districts, the drive to 'get our numbers right' has produced disastrous results, with startling increases in both the number and severity of disciplinary offenses, including assaults and beatings of teachers and students.”

.... a 210-page district report on “Eliminating the School to Prison Pipeline,” lists “assault/threat” and “fighting,” as well as “vandalism,” among “infractions aligned with participation in the PROMISE program," and it states that the recommended consequences for such misdemeanors are a “student essay," “counseling” and “restorative justice."

A repeat offender, Cruz benefited from the lax discipline policy, ....

By avoiding a criminal record, Cruz passed a federal background check in February 2017 before purchasing the AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle investigators say was used in the mass shooting. Just one month earlier, he was disciplined with a one-day internal suspension for an “assault” at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and evaluated as a potential “threat." It was his second offense for fighting in less than four months, but campus police did not make an arrest in either case -- as they typically did for repeat offenders under the district’s prior zero-tolerance policies, a review of the official “discipline matrix” used last decade reveals."

Perhaps you could defend Obama's forbidding any arrest record that would have prevented Nikolas Cruz from obtaining his weapons.

or....

Perhaps you could defend Obama's preventing law enforcement agencies from preventing Hezbollah from selling $billion of Cocaine in the US?

Yes Virginia, it really is just that simple.

2. Perhaps you could defend Obama's preventing law enforcement agencies from stopping Hezbollah from selling $billion of Cocaine in the US?

This snake was recently revealed to have bowed to the Iranian mullahs who demanded that Hezbollah be given a free hand in selling $ billions in cocaine to be sold in the United States.

"According to Politico, during the nuclear negotiations Iran requested that the Obama administration let Hezbollah off the hook and it complied." Get tough on Hezbollah, fix Obama's mistake: Revive Project Cassandra

And the money was used for terrorism, including IEDs used against American soldiers.

…a part of the Nuke deal is that the United States allow Iran's terrorist subsidiary to bring drugs into this country, and sell same to gain the funds to support terrorism worldwide.

Yup…..Hussein Obama, we now know, was behind preventing the authorities investigating and arresting drug dealers who had the Iranian imprimatur.

The mullahs told Obama that Hezbollah gets a free hand in cocaine smuggling….$ billion a year….or no deal.
So he obstructed US justice to bow to the wishes of the blood cult known as Iranian leadership.

"… it emerges the Obama administration went to extraordinary lengths to let Hezbollah off the hook for nefarious activities to avoid derailing the accord. This is what real obstruction of justice looks like - yet where's the media outrage?"

1. Perhaps you could defend Obama's forbidding any arrest record that would have prevented Nikolas Cruz from obtaining his weapons.

The School-To-Mass-Murder Pipeline

Gun control folks regularly bring up background checks.

Why?

Obama’s Promise Program resulted in Nikolas Cruz not having an arrest record…..nothing that a background check would reveal.

So…..he could buy weapons legally.

A good conversation piece, PC. I think people get confused on where to draw the lines in the sand. Humans are also good at self justification in order to fulfill their own desires above and beyond regardless of the damage that they may doing to someone else.
