Should It Be Illegal For Teachers To Push Their Politics On Their Students?

How about rather than making more laws interfering with education we just get the government out of the way and allow parents to decide whether the education their children are receiving is suitable, and if not allow them to find a school that is to their standards?

Already have that.

They call them private schools.

Yes, private schools that must be sanctioned to operate by their competition, the government, and because of the government's restrictions in the education market must also charge a ridiculous amount of money. In a competitive free market the price of education would go down, and there'd be a lot more choice.

Somehow I don't think you would want your child educated in China or India.

Lovely countries I'm sure, but no, probably not. Fortunately the free market wouldn't limit my choices to China and India. Ohio would have plenty of schools.

Do I want to close them down? Not necessarily. I simply want them to cease to be state universities and public schools.

That is very easily said. But if you are consistent with yourself you want all government funding withdrawn from them. That in effect means shutting them down and turning the US into a Third World country overnight. Not really a smart idea.

Yea I know what you all mean.

My son has a whack job right winger for a teacher. I get so tired of pointing out to my son how full of shit this teacher is.

But I do it because that is my job.
That's interesting.

What kind of rightwing nonsense is he exposing youir kid to?

Does it matter? You're the one that wants to make it illegal.
Nice dodge.

It does matter.

What you consider to be crazy could be common-sense.

Yes, but you ignored the rest of my post which explained why that wouldn't happen.

Why don't more conservatives become teachers?
I mean the pay is lousy. You get NO respect. Contard asshats are CONSTANTLY saying you earn too much. You have to think that giving back to your community is at least as important as your own personal wealth. Oh, and you will probably spend a lot of your own money on other people's kids...so you kinda have to be a socialist, by the CON definition.

Oh. THAT'S why there aren't more CONZ in the teaching profession.
So, now you want to even the playing field by saying no proselytizing?
Get your ass into the classroom yourselves or STFU.

I was gonna say the same thing.

If teachers have it so easy...if it is impossible to discipline them...if they get to say and do what they want...seems like those Conservatives whining should become teachers themselves and fix the problem while having a wonderful job with 1 month...no, 2 months, no 3 months vacation and fantastic job security.

But it would happen. If tomorrow you cut all government funding for all of these schools you believe that all of a sudden new schools would miraculously spring up?

You do realize, of course, that even virtually all major private universities would have to shut down if they received no more government money?

They keep describing the Mexico Model, but for some reason I don't think they really want that here.

Any time the government starts funding anything the price sky-rockets.

Except that nobody said do it overnight.

And without govt mandated standards how would a parent know which school was the best and would it be close enough to where they lived?

Remember now the majority of parents use the education system as a babysitter.

Competition in primary education will not work the same way as manufactured items which can be shipped and stored.

Exactly. Which is why they need to stop funding education.

How do they know which shoes are the best, or which food? How do they know which computer companies make the best product? How do they know which dry-cleaner provides the best service?

Nice dodge.

It does matter.

What you consider to be crazy could be common-sense.

The same could be said for you. So who decides what constitutes common sense, and what constitutes pushing an agenda?

I don't think that should be left up to any one person or group to decide.

However, simply going along with popular opinion isn't common-sense ether.

This is where little things like having morals and solid principles comes in to play.

So let's get government completely out of the education business so that parents can decide for themselves whether or not they're satisfied with their child's education. Teachers with an agenda may soon find themselves out of a job if they drive away students.

Man, that is weak. You realize your ideological pipe dream is an illusion and this is the best you can come up with?
