That's fine as long as one then has to show one's ID in order to prove one is actually the person on the voter roster.
why? who votes in another person's place at the polls and taking the risk of getting caught and charged with a felony? no one.

Anyone can register to vote, then vote. No ID is required at either end and it is illegal to ask for proof of citizenship. All that is required is the persons "Attestation" that they are legal.

Surely no illegal person who is here ILLEGALLY would ever lie on a form!! No way!! They also never remove a tag from their mattresses!! It also why "gun free zones" never have gun violence.....

Mickey Mouse, registered to vote, with signature of stating he is a citizen....when the State receives the application, they verify the applications and then approve the application, before the person is actually registered to vote...and guess what, the State denied Mickey Mouse the voters registration card and Mickey's name never showed on the voter rolls....

the State needs to verify citizenship as one of the things, where the person lives as another, their age as another.....whether a felon or not as another etc etc etc....

The STATE needs to use e-verify and basically throw out the applications for those not citizens....their names will never make the voter rolls.

Yeah, because E-verify is working So Well in keeping employers from hiring Illegal Aliens!
not all businesses use it....

The State welfare offices, have to prove citizenship of the person applying, even if they do not have any ids, the State can verify citizenship....they do it all the time, it is REQUIRED of them....

We can do this, and do this right....don't be such a Nay Sayer....

I don't trust the Federal Government to handle data.

They've proven time and time again that they can't. So why add the integrity of elections to the pile of things they frell up?

LEGAL immigrants are not allowed to vote, why would we let ILLEGAL immigrants, when not even LEGAL immigrants can vote?

Should you have to prove you're a citizen to register to vote?
at the initial sign up.....

When I was living in Florida, back in 2008, I overheard a black woman tell someone else, that she voted for barack twice; Once n for herself and again for her mother who had gone to Chicago. (presumably to vote for guess who)

Sorry. States are not allowed to do that. The SCOTUS upheld the "National Voter Registration Act of 1993" and specifically stated that States cannot impose any additional burdens beyond those on the federal form. The federal form does not verify citizenship, just an attestation.

What could go wrong? Illegals would never break the law!

Right. I heard a person say that they saw Elvis at the local Walmart.

Try again. That is against the law!

Supreme Court strikes down proof-of-citizenship provision in Arizona voting law
This is why the State, should do the vetting via e-verify, to discern if they are citizens or not.....

According to the SCOTUS, that is ILLEGAL. Under FEDERAL LAW the only requirement to register vote is an attestation. Read it yourself.....what could go wrong?

Illegal, ishmegal. Certain states are already making it legal for illegals to vote. The same states that are ignoring Federal narcotics laws and legalizing marijuana, too. And this kind of defiance has got to end. But how? I live in one of these broken defiant states, and I hate the political pull certain groups have over those born in and native to the state. The Ex Denver Mayor, now " Governor" of Colorado is from Pennsylvania , he was well known for hiring illegals ,( one that killed an off duty cop).Gave a mass murderer undeserved clemency. I feel like a member of the fifth estate, and it's damn time someone started to represent US plebes, instead of the the first estaters or their lackies.

the State can not impose this burden on to citizens...it would end up limiting citizen voters and that's why....

HOWEVER the State, once they receive the application for voter registration, CAN VERIFY whether they are a citizen or not via e-verify and other systems out there.... this puts no burden on to the citizen to have to carry PAPERS.

THE STATES MUST verify citizenship for certain welfare programs and use gvt lists like e-verify to do such, before the State can give welfare that is funded in part by the Federal gvt.

for goodness sakes, we are in the 21st century, and live in a digital world... the State can do the checking and vetting....

the Supreme court and the law, DOES NOT stop States from verifying citizenship, as long as it is them doing it and not requiring us citizens to carry our PAPERS.

All States should do this....and all States should remove their dead from the voter rolls.... they can verify citizenship, verify the person's address to make certain they are voting in the right district, verify whether the person is registered in another county or another address, verify that they are not a felon, etc etc etc......

Utter nonsense. It is not an undue burden to show one's ID at a polling place. We have to show our ID to conduct all kinds of transactions in our society. Voting should be no different.

It's always been an honor system, in order to vote...since our inception...we citizens are legal, we citizens are NOT breaking the law when we vote, we citizens should not be treated as if we are the CRIMINALS, we are not the criminals and should not be burdened with this extra crapola in order to vote, we've done nothing wrong...

The felons/illegal immigrants or legal immigrants who register and vote illegally, should be prosecuted and stopped from doing such...and every single State should just announce that they will be verifying citizenship of every applicant and the illegal perps better beware, we the State, will be charging you with a felony.

You'd better take it up with the SCOTUS. They say the states CANNOT VERIFY CITIZENSHIP when voters register. They also cannot require voters to show ID when they vote.

This has been the lib/prog/commie/democrat dream for decades. They've always wanted illegals to vote, it's an untapped constituency.

"Vote Democrat!! GET MORE FREE SHIT!!! Democrats Heart illegal aliens. There are no illegal people."

PS- I noticed you didn't vote in the poll.....Maybe you want illegals to vote but are afraid to say so?

Millions of Americans live their lives without a government issued photo id....it may not be a world you are familiar with, or even want to acknowledge, but this non government photo id world, DOES EXIST....and it's filled with natural born citizens.... so yes, it can be a burden for these mllions of people who have lived their lives without needing a gvt issued photo id. Why go after these citizens and put this on them? They are not the ones committing a crime, the illegal immigrants and legal immigrants are the ones committing the crime if they are registering to vote.

Time to call the WAAAAAAAAmbulance.

States provide free or very cheap IDs ($8 in CA) for people who cannot afford the regular fees. And someone who cares too little to get an ID to vote has opted out on his own.

There is not a small enough violin for this burning strawman.

i'm sorry, the constitution says NOTHING about needing to get a gvt issued photo id with an rfid chip in it, in order to vote... and says nothing about a citizen who cares too little about getting GVT PAPERS in order to vote, nor do any of the election laws....

All citizens eligible to vote, (meeting the age, not a felon in certain states), can vote...there is "no test" of whether they "care enough or care too little"....

The Constitution doesn't say that anybody coming into this country illegally can vote without having to show ID. It does specify that CITIZENS have the right to vote. By not verifying that ONLY CITIZENS are voting, the government violates the rights of citizens due to the dilution and nullification of their votes by those who should not be allowed to vote, but do anyway because it serves the interests of the Big Government Crony Socialist Overlords.

LEGAL immigrants are not allowed to vote, why would we let ILLEGAL immigrants, when not even LEGAL immigrants can vote?

Should you have to prove you're a citizen to register to vote?
No, but the State should prove you are NOT a citizen when you register to vote and the State vets your registration...They can do this with federal lists such as e-verify and others.... they have the means to discern your citizenship, just like they have the means to determine you are an exfelon that can't legally vote...

No? Did you really fucking say No?

Methinks maybe Care wants illegals to vote. She's made 10 posts in the thread, but didn't vote.......connect the dots.......::wtf:

Even the restriction that some states put on felons not being allowed to vote...DID NOT EXIST until after the civil war was over and white citizens wanted to limit black voters from voting so they then made felons ineligible to vote....blacks were primarily the people in prison....I'm surprised the supreme court has not ruled that unconstitutional....

Maine and Vermont NEVER banned those in prison from voting, even after the civil war and to this very day, has not banned felons from voting....some historians say it's because we have less than 1-2% of the black population in our States.....so our States never felt the need to change the law after the civil war to ban felons from voting...

that right there, shows that coming up with all of these tests and "caring enough" tests that you all are trying to impose is JUST TO RID the citizens you don't agree with from voting....which simply is WRONG to do.

I'm all for stopping the non citizens from voting, but NOT at the expense of taking away a citizen's vote.

this is why the State should do the verifying of citizenship.

Dems allow people to register without home addresses, how the fuck do you prevent Illegals from registering?
