I think it's more feasible now than ever before, more people deal in plastic rather than cash. I never carry cash, so I would barely notice the switch.

There already is a one dollar coin. I have two of them. It is just a tiny bit larger than a quarter and is very easily mistaken for one, which probably accounts for why it's become so obscure.

Get rid of paper/coin currency altogether; it’s a useless anachronism – as already noted, millions don’t carry cash anymore anyway, it’s a tedious annoyance.

I'd rather have the paper cash then coins. Switching to coins would mean re-programming vending machines to recognize the damn things (costing manufacturers) and an accumlulative amount of coins will weigh you down.
