Sequestration and What It Would Do to U.S. Military Power

I wonder which one of these might be a tiny bit over bloated..:eusa_think:

discretionary_spending_fy2011.png

and which ones are actually mandated by the consitution as a federal power?

All of them. If it wasn't constitutional, the spending would never be authorized.

Consitutional and mandated by the consitution are two different things. I dont see environmental spending, or HUD, or OSHA, or food stamps as mandated by the consitution, unlike defense, which is a federal role.

Our Military is the "right size"

They are given a broad mission and field a force which has a high probability of completing that mission successfully

The US has a military that is more powerful than the next ten countries combined, Eight of those ten countries are our allies. In terms of threat, we have a much larger military than we need.

If we want to slash our Military (and we should), we need to reasses their mission. We need to look at our allies and the military protection tha we give them at no charge. We need to force other economic powers to bear the primary responsibility of keeping the peace in their sector. We need to look at our nuclear arsenal against current nuclear threats

The military can be reduced, but to do it by some arbitrary cut is foolish

A fair argument but nontheless the miliitary is necessary like it or not. Is there a link to the story that goes with that chart?

The military serves one purpose per the constitution to defend our homeland. It's not it's duty to police the world and be at non-stop war.

The right wing military industrial complex is the most pork barreled plague sucking the nation dry. It needs cuts, HUGE cuts. Except that's how the right wing trash is, they claim they are for fiscal responsibility, but never want to cut a dime where it's most needed, the grossly overinflated military.

You'll notice even in your chart..veteran's benefits are scored as entitlements. They shouldn't be.

Make the 47% get a job! Pay taxes and get off their ass. President Romney will make damn sure of it! He will save this nation.

You stupid fuk. Are you the poster boy for the rethug party? I hope so. You do them proud. LMAO.

What is so wrong about Mitt Romney making 12+ million jobs and putting America to work? He will make damn sure those that don't pay taxes, DO. He will make people earn their way in this country. No more free shit!

In recent months, concerns over sequestration and its impact on the U.S. military have reached a fever pitch in Washington.

There is no doubt that sequestration would be a terrible mistake. If Congress is unable to reach a compromise on how to solve America’s debt dilemma, almost half a trillion dollars in mandatory cuts to the defense budget over the next decade would initiate in January (meaning roughly $55 billion in the first year). It is un-strategic to hack away at the defense budget in a generalized manner, cutting the good and the bad by the same percentage, like a butcher with a piece of meat.

Never fear lovers of brute force, nothing will be allowed to interfere with the empire or its legions. Sequestration will either be ignored, or legislatively set aside.

The Constitution mandates a permanent navy for the defense of the homeland and protection of trading routes. It doesn't mandate anything else.

I agree. Start with waste and reacess. Cut foreign aid as well. Time to worry about ourselves.

This is satirical, right?

I hope not...:eusa_shifty: You never know about Mitt Romney, but if he's as conservative as he says he is that will be a breath of fresh air. No More Bushs compassionate conservatism!!!

Just flat out welfare cuts across the board! Reducing the governments budget by trillions!

Do you ever read/listen to anything but FOX?

You have a grandmother or grandfather drawing SSI? They are not paying income taxes most likely. What job do you want them to do?

You know any real poor people working one or two minimum wage jobs, with a family?
They probably are not paying any Fed. Income tax cause they don't make enough money.
Do you want to pay them more so they earn more and fall in the income tax group. Or do you want to make them poorer by increasing their taxes?

Military men and women? Make them pay. Right?

How about those that are on Social Security Disability? Make them pay Fed Income tax no matter what they recieve?

And as to Mitts claim he will "make" 12 million jobs. Evidentally you missed the memo that says the guvmint can't "create" jobs. The rethugs claim this all the time when Obama wants to "create" jobs. So please explain what Mitt would do, because Mitt sure as hell isn't saying.

And lets say Mitt could create jobs. What if they are mostly minimum wage service sector jobs. You want them to pay Fed Income tax on their measly earnings? How much?

And finally. If you are making a middle class income, lets say 50k a year, you think it right that Mittens with his tens of millions of dollars pays a lower tax rate than YOU? Of course you do. But the person making 14k a year needs to pony up more more.

What a weird position to take. Like I said; poster boy for the rethugs.

Sounds like the national socialist party would be a better fit for you.

How is asking for LESS government National Socialism?

Statists like you are far more similar to facists than any conservative/libertarian I know of.

If our militaries only mission was to protect the mainland US, we could cut our military by 90%. It is our projection of power around the world that eats up most of our budget

I actually agree with Ron Paul on that. If our allies don't pick up their share, it's time to let them fend for themselves.

Every ,mlitary action is always borne by the U.S. Where the hell is Germany, France, Italy?

Their contributions are pitiful.

They certainly can do more.

And?

You get what that means?

The army was not meant to be a permanent fixture.

Good. the military spending is completely out of control and we can't afford it.

The waste is what needs to be addressed not the military being too large. It protects your lame ass so that you can post your stupidity here without having your tongue cut out or your head lopped off.

Your fear mongering is misplaced as well as 'neoconish',. The violent extremists who would cut off my head, etc. wouldn't last long in our country and I have no interest in visiting the Middle East.

In fact I'm much better equipped to defend myself from a person who wants to attack me than I am to protect myself and my family from cuts to food, water and air protections provided by Federal Agencies, which many on the right want to cut.

A projection of power is needed to maintain a modern technological society. Even if you figure out a way to wean us off foreign oil, there are certain strategic minerals we have to import, as there are no domestic sources.
