Senate Set to Extend Jobless Benefits

I don't know about the GOP, but I am. let's start by bringing all our troops home, now what is the left willing to give up?

I believe the left would be willing to throw in bringing home troops from other remote bases around the world that really support other countries by their existence, moreso than our own.

Really? And what exactly do you propose we do with those troops that we bring home from remote bases around the world? Are you proposing taking 30 billion dollars from the defense budget to pay for extended UE benefits and then dumping all those soldiers you brought home into a market with 9.5 % unemployment. What a genius idea.

Nope, I propose stationing quite a few of them in Mexico and hiring the rest out free lance style. Hey S Korea you want US Army stationed on your northern border? No problem, that will X amount of dollars per day per solider. Anyone else need military protection?

I'm saying the stim money is already borrowed, use that and don't borrow more. But since it's already 'accounted' for (Jon already answered my question), it's moot.

Why don't you want the u.e. extensions paid for rather than borrowing more? Why don't you want pay-go?

I have no problem with pay go as long as it applies to ALL Fed Government costs. $500M to Pakistan to help improve their power grid, for example.
And the $720 Billion to extend the Bush redistribution of wealth tax giveaway.

The one Obama voted for????

The same one Obama needed to take over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac...along with AIG and Goldman Sachs.

Power to the people.:eusa_angel:

Cons must feel such pride that citizens of America have an ever diminished standard of living compared to other industrialized nations.

Ya, well at THIS rate we will have to print fake money to pay for shit. 50 cents on EVERY dollar the Government spends is BORROWED. Want to know where THAT leads? Maybe ask some Germans that lived through the 20's when they needed a wheel barrel to haul the cash to buy a loaf of bread.

The GOP is getting killed on this. They are the most dogmatically self-emaciating group I have ever seen. The next time one of their members are on camera, someone please get a shot of the ring in his/her nose. The follow each other like a herd of cows. PLEASE!

Between the Tea party Express, Federation, Klan, Cult...or whatever they are this week, the GOP will gain neither chamber and, it appears, they are on the verge of EXTINCTION...

So Sarge, where were you when your boy Bush was spending money that he didn't have? Or are you a member of the Tea Party Express and just can't handle a Black Man as President?

Typical CON$ervoFascist revisionist history!

Obama was not a Senator in 2001 and 2003!

What a brainwashed moron!

Don't know. Why won't the admin/dems agree to cut spending elsewhere in order to pay for u.e. extensions? Wasn't Barry going to go over things line by line and cut waste and spending? Well?

In order to go over "things" line by line, all "things" must be on the table.

Super, put them on the table.

Why the fuss from the admin over paying for this round of extensions and poo-pooing all over the Repubsm making them look like bad guys? (sssshh, there's an election coming up!) Why is Obama going back on pay-go? Why don't they tap the unspent stim bucks to pay for this rather than borrowing -- what is it, $30 billion? I thought the last round of extensions was the last round? When are they going to cut fraud and wasteful spending in D.C.?

Totally agree.

They have that unspent stimulus money sitting there.

I wonder what they are saving it for??

Lets use that money to extend beneits. It will be payed for. Pay and go as Barry Boy said.
If I'm not mistaken this is what the Reps have in mind. Wonder why the Dems don't think its a good idea?? You know Pay and go. LOL

I find it IMPOSSIBLE to believe that anyone was looking for a job for 2 years and couldn't find one. I mean fast food restaurants are essentially always hiring. Maybe not the best job, but it's a JOB. Unless of course you would rather sit back and suck the government tit.

Most people collecting unemployment make more collecting that than working at McJobs.

And most of those people wouldn't get hired for those McJobs anyway since they're too old and too overqualifed to even be considered for those jobs.

I think 0bama really overplayed this one. The Republicans are just showing the Democrats to be foolhardy on spending once again. Working America is fed up with Obamacare and emtitlements. Many are living on the edge already and the prospect of somehow paying for a neighbor to sit on their ass another three months is not making them happy.

GOP senators say they want to help the jobless but that the extended benefits must be paid for so as not to add to the deficit. Democrats say the spending is justified, given the struggles of the long-term unemployed ...

So, why can't they (or don't they?) agree to pay for it?

What's the big deal?

2.5 million, given $10,000 in benefits would only be $25 Billion.

Freakin' Drop in the bucket of $15 trillion

Totally meanless compared to one quadrillion. You could also break it down to 300 million Americans only need to kick in a dime. Bottom line is, you have to TAKE money from someone earning that money and GIVE it to someone who didn't earn it. I suggest you volunteer to give additional tax dollars this year with your return.

Well, alrighty then, I'll put in a $1.00

Now pass around the hat.

Frankly, I like your suggestion: If we need to fund something, then why not simply ask for direct contributions.

Just typical CON$ervative dishonesty. While some of the stimulus money has not been PAID OUT, that does not mean it is available to be SPENT on other things, and every dishonest CON$ervative know this. Part of the "unspent" money is appropriated for 2010 tax cuts and therefore cannot be spent elsewhere without eliminating the tax cuts. And the rest of the "unspent" money has been contracted for many projects that have not been completed yet and therefore have not been paid out yet.

The one and only goal of the GOP is to cripple any recovery by any means possible in order to regain power. The more the GOP can prolong the suffering of the American people whom they hate, the better they see their chances of getting power.

Let me begin by reiterating that the Empire did not arrive at this point in time without the collusion of both Socialist Parties that comprise the Duopoly.

Polytickers from both Parties have dropped any pretense of faithfully performing their "Fiduciary Responsibilities" to their Constituents and to the Empire.

Having said that, the Pubs did manage to "strip" the Dem Original 120 Billion Bill of its "Pork" and get it down to 34 Billion strictly to reinstate, not extend, the Imperial extension funds.

The Dems may "win" this short term battle for "political gain" but the Empire will be lost in agonizing "Pain" in the end.

As I have stated and written many times since 1996, the Empire is doomed.

If you graduated from HS prior to 1965, you have the analytical reasoning ability to understand why.

I give the Empire 36-60 months before it implodes and Balkanization begins in earnest.

5 years, eh?

Not unless something totally unexpected exascerbates its downward trajectory.

The Empire isn't collapsing.

Just the American Republic that has been funding its imperialism for the last century or so is collapsing.

They're stripping out the substance of America but will keep the legal fiction of America going indefinitely

Really the nation is about to the business of becoming, politically speaking, at least, a ZOMBIE state.

No more than 5 years.

Not unless something totally unexpected exascerbates its downward trajectory.

Massive debt along with endless "Bread & Circuses" (Welfare) along with an Imperial War Policy is unsustainable over the long haul.

The Empire isn't collapsing.

127 Trillion in "Ununded Liabilities" for the Imperial Government in DC added to three trillion in "Unfunded Liabilities" for the States with the four largest banks holding a notional 60 trillion in "Derivitives" is enough exascerbation for me.

Just the American Republic that has been funding its imperialism for the last century or so is collapsing.

There has been NO American Republic since Lincoln set the Empire on its current course by shredding the US Constitution.

They're stripping out the substance of America but will keep the legal fiction of America going indefinitely

True but only for the short time remaining.

Really the nation is about to the business of becoming, politically speaking, at least, a ZOMBIE state.

There is NO American Exceptionalism.

Anyone who believes that myth missed his opportunity at the Jim Jones punchbowl.

The old Nation of the United States of America will "Balkanize" into several smaller, more manageable States along racial, cultural, historical and economic lines.

The only question is will the dissolution by peaceful as was Checkoslovakia and the USSR or will it be violent like the War of Northern Aggression?

Senate Set to Extend Jobless Benefits

By NAFTALI BENDAVID And GREG HITT

WASHINGTON—The Senate, after weeks of contentious debate, is poised to extend unemployment benefits Tuesday for more than 2.5 million Americans. <more>

I wonder if they are going to continue to borrow money to fund this or make cuts somewhere else to pay for it???

Most of it will come from the employers.

A little known item of fact. The first and second employers of record of any given employee pay a good portion of uinemployment for the individual.

The GOP wantr to take the money from the TARP funds so the small businesses do not have to bear the burden so they can try to recover and hire again.

The DEM want to get it from the small businesses which will severly hamper any growth and possibly be the straw that breaks their backs.

I wonder why the media does not mention that?

You, yes you, can end the threat of unemployment at my house this very day!

I think I can stay off unemployment permanently with just a stimulus injection of $1.75 million. Heck, that isn't even a billion. What a bargain, what a value!
