Senate Judiciary chair rejects Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapons ban

January 30, 2013

The Democratic chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee did not endorse colleague Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapons ban at a packed Capitol Hill hearing on guns Wednesday in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., shooting.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., called for “common sense reform,” that closes loopholes in current gun laws and enforces background checks. But they did not endorse Feinstein’s tougher ban. “I know gun store owners in Vermont,” Leahy said. “They follow the law and conduct background checks…why should we not try to plug the loopholes in the law that allow (criminals and the mentally ill) to buy guns without background checks?”

The rebuffed California Democrat plans to hold her own hearing in her Judiciary subcommittee on her legislation, which is strongly opposed by the National Rifle Association. Senate majority leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has also refused to back a ban on military-style weapons and high-capacity clips. Reid’s position reflects the political fact that a whole bevy of conservative Democrats do not support Feinstein’s ban.

Obama has overplayed his hand on this and the left is wishful thinking if they really believe an "assault" weapons ban is going to result from Sandy Hook.

Obama has steamrolled over the graves of those Sandy Hook shooting victims to shove his anti-gun agenda down the throats of law-abiding U.S. citizens, using what he perceives to be his limitless executive powers.

Barack Obama has no core values and no conscience.

To Barack Obama, all tragedies and all controversies are nothing more than OPPORTUNITIES for him to inflict his left wing agenda on a nation of over 300 million people.

Stand down, Mr. Obama. Stand down.

It's not a good sign when your own party's leader in the Senate and another powerful party Senate member both refuse to acknowledge your bill.

it is the support of the American people that will count most in the end - and Feinstein should be banning all auto and semi-auto firearms for everyone including law enforcement, except the military.

Feinstein needs to figure out banning "Assault Weapons" is fruitless and nothing more than a loophole.
