Silencers are already covered under the NFA laws and a flash suppressor does nothing to either increase or decease the lethality of a firearm.

No but under that law, when you die, it must be turned over. It cannot exchange hands, if it does, that person becomes a criminal.
In the end, what would happen, and easily surmised by anyone other than an idiot, is lawfully owned guns would vanish while unlawfully owned guns would stay.

Due to the millions upon millions of existing weapons, it would take much longer than a decade for an AWB to be effective.

We banned machine guns many decades ago, and that has been very effective.
