This is a modernism-vignette about science-fiction storytelling values for 'futurama-consciousness.'

The vignette inferences the work of Alien actress Veronica Cartwright and the metaphysics 'deux-ex-machina' influence of Shiva (Hindu god of destruction).

This vignette was inspired by the film Prometheus.

Cheers (and Happy New Year's USMB!),

Shiva was meditating on his mountaintop in the Himalayas when he noticed that the modern world was very interested in paranoia-oriented science-fiction storytelling and movies. In particular, Shiva was interested in the Alien sci-fi horror-film franchise and especially Ridley Scott's original groundbreaking film Alien starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, and Veronica Cartwright. Shiva was particularly impressed by Veronica's performance in Alien as Lambert, the navigator on the space-explorer vessel Nostromo. Shiva felt that Veronica perfectly captured a modern-age fear regarding the deterioration of teamwork and courage in the face of pure ethics-breakdown and terror-emergence (e.g., monstrosity, predator-genesis, etc.). Shiva decided to visit Veronica (in her dream while she slept) and began conversing with her about human imagination regarding virtue, security, and monstrosity.

Veronica was thrilled to be talking to Lord Shiva about the contours of human imagination as they related to fear and terror and ethics and virtue. She told him how much she enjoyed working on Alien and how intriguingly-challenging it was to coordinate modernism-ethics with new age sci-fi storytelling to present characterizations of fear and authority in an age when exploration would possibly be challenged by predators and/or other forms of terror. Shiva suggested that Alien not only represented human terror of alien contact but also human vice regarding teamwork disintegration in the face of futuristic turbulence. Veronica agreed and explained why she thought Alien was a sort of 'psychological manual' for understanding/evaluating the devastation of life, love, and even pity! Veronica told Shiva that after completing the film, she started thinking of virtue-oriented 'royal figures' such as Cinderella and other images/stories about ethics-challenged princes and princesses dealing with the beauty (or ugliness!) of power itself.

Shiva and Veronica completely agreed that Alien was a righteous modernism folkloric 'symbol' of ethics-disintegration preparedness (e.g., 9/11) and teamwork breakdown in the face of fear. The two individuals began discussing how modernism prompted sociologists to imagine orientations of developed cities which either boast beneficial forms of governance or terrifying manifestations of piracy and avarice. Shiva and Veronica realized that Alien could even be used as a sort of 'tabula rasa' for macro-psychology (and hence medicine!). Veronica believed that the 'alienation' of virtue could arise from a dangerous speculation of the 'profitability' of sacrificing others for personal gain in a world driven by 'modern capitalism' (e.g., Wall Street). Shiva believed that heartbreak and morale-breakdown in a developed 'futuristic city/world' reflected a natural fear of failure and extinction, a fear which could give rise to primal urges to conquer, destroy, and even murder!

Veronica decided to attend a special panel-discussion for the Alien film alongside her co-star Tom Skerritt. She was happy with the course of the discussion and how it represented modernism concerns regarding the 'values' of sci-fi storytelling for this new age when America was developing as the true capitalism-superpower. The discussion most-impressed Shiva who watched invisibly from a distance (on his mountaintop from his psychic vision-crystal). Shiva was impressed by Veronica's continuing interest in applying the arts to social activity and was content that he visited the right cast-member of Alien. Shiva decided to shoot a love-arrow to promote a romance-relationship between Veronica and her co-star Skerritt, and if such a love blossomed, Shiva would boast, "Love has ornamented social activity...even in modern times!" Shiva concluded that movies symbolized real meditation. Shiva secretly started dreaming of teaching a science-fiction course at Yale University!
