Given the voluminous number of criminal charges that multiply-indicted former president Donald Trump is facing, figuring out which prosecutor gets first dibs has been a bit of a guessing game.
The three main criminal prosecutions against Trump are his classified documents case in Florida, his election interference case in Washington DC, and the Stormy Daniels hush money case in New York, where Trump is accused of falsifying documents to cover up his payments.
While Special Counsel Jack Smith is overseeing the prosecution of the first two of these cases, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is in charge of the hush money prosecution — which is essentially an election interference case because Trump likely sought to hide his payments to Daniels to avoid tanking his 2016 election chances.
D.A. Bragg has long expected to defer to the primacy of the federal prosecutions in setting his trial dates, but now, due to a number of factors, it unexpectedly looks like his case may be the first criminal trial to actually commence.
