Say Only What We Want to Hear, or

We Will Take Away Your Livelihood

22 Sep 2022 ~~ By THORSTEINN SIGLAUGSSON

The attacks on free and open discussion are becoming more and more widespread. Now, as Toby Young explains in an article this morning, the payment service PayPal has closed the accounts of the Daily Sceptic, which often publishes criticism of the government policy in various matters.
PayPal has also closed the account of the Free Speech Union, which provides support to people whose freedom of opinion is under attack, for example those fired from their jobs because of their opinions. PayPal has even gone as far as to close the rarely used personal account of Toby Young, who is in charge of both the Daily Sceptic and the Free Speech Union, and is also associate editor of The Spectator, one of the world’s most respected newspapers.
As Toby reports in his article, the company has offered no explanation for this move.

Freedom of expression is a fundamental value that concerns us all, no matter where we stand in politics, what our religion is or our preferences in life. We must have the maturity and moral standing to defend it unconditionally, no matter how annoying or inappropriate we might find the views currently being attacked.
If we do not stand up now for the freedom of expression, next time it will be our own views getting censored, our own livelihood taken away.

Commentary:
Understand that this is happening in banking, real banking, not just payment processors. It is part of ESG.
Glenn Beck had Representative Andy Barr on today discussing how financial institutions are using nonobjective criteria to discriminate against conservative businesses. It was a great interview and really gave me a different way to think about the direction these financial services companies are going. Moving from objective criteria to touchy feely wokism. This was the conversation Glenn and Barr were discussing that happened yesterday the financial committee.

What financial services are doing is discrimination, not censorship. As such technically they can be sued.
If you ever capitulate to do what they tell you to do, you are their slave.

Turns out enabling the far right is bad for business. You have a problem with capitalism?

Conservatives need to step up & start their own platforms, banking & financials & others.
The problem is the system has been rigged by DC to favor the rich & powerful that fund their campaigns & slush funds.
They do not like competition & will pay bribes to make it disappear.
It will take discipline from the masses to fight back & take away their power.

You think the Spectator is respected?

PayPal is a private company, they have every right to not do business with a company who they don't want to deal with. If you don't like PayPal, use Zelle or Square or any one of a number of other services.

Freedom of speech also revolves around the idea that private individuals or companies can choose who uses their platforms and who does not.

The idea that a site must host any idea, belief, or whatever was never what freedom of speech was about. You are free to start your own site and spout whatever you want and accept or deny the ideas of others just the same.

Is asking for a non-discriminatory banking industry too much or is "back of the bus" allowed now as long as it's just for those who don't bend the knee to insanity & lies?

Quite the contrary... lots of leftists have been "Cancelled" for their behavior - the Dixie Chicks, Jane Fonda, Colin Kapernaek, Sinead O'Connor.

You take a controversial stand, it follows you around.

The best method to solve this is to stop using PayPal. Let it die on the vine.

The answer is already in the Constitution silly.

Let banks compete, and have the congress control the currency.

We couldn't even get republicans to support making the banks not defraud their customers or to make them bail themselves out of trouble but you're mad about this? Your priorities are fucked.

What do you want? Socialist nationalization of the banking industry?
You base your loans and services for those that are a good risk, not because of race, color, creed, sex, sexual preference and political association. You are in business to make money, not dictate morality.
