MOSCOW: Russia's military on Thursday blasted targets across Syria with long-range strategic bombers for a third day, the defence ministry said, as Moscow pressed on with its intensified air campaign in the country.

ISIS warehouses and command posts in the Idlib and Aleppo provinces were targetted as Russia launched its "third massive air strike", the defence ministry said in a statement.

Powerful long-distance Tu-22 bombers also struck six targets including three "major plants" for refining oil in IS strongholds in the Raqa and Deir Ezzor provinces, Moscow said.

"The militants have admitted the death of 'Abu Nurlbagasi', 'Muhammad ibn Khayrat' and 'Al-Okab' as a result of Russian airstrikes in the area of Aleppo,”Colonel General Andrey Kartapolov, General Staff spokesman, told journalists Thursday.

Militant commander “Ahmad Zia” was eliminated in an airstrike near the Jubb al Ahmar mountain, while another high-ranking terrorist, “Abu Bakr”, was buried on Wednesday after being killed by Russian bombs, he added.

The terrorists are suffering heavy losses in manpower as a result of Russian airstrikes, Kartapolov said.

"In order to conceal the true number of casualties, the evacuation of the dead and wounded militants is carried out in the dark,”the spokesman added."According to our data, due to heavy losses and the inability to bury all of the eliminated terrorists in accordance with Islamic tradition, the commanders decided to dump the bodies of ordinary militants in sewage pits."

The Su-34, Su-25, and Su-24M warplanes have conducted 100 sorties from Khmeimim airfield, in which 190 terrorist targets were destroyed, including 58 command centers, 41 arms depots and 17 fortified strong points.

Russia also fired 16 air-launched long-range cruise missiles, which wiped out seven critical terrorist facilities in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib.

MOSCOW: Russia is pounding the Islamic State jihadists in Syria with bombs emblazoned with the words "For our people" and "For Paris" after Moscow vowed vengeance following the bombing of a plane over Sinai.

Russian television broadcast a video in which a man is seen scrawling "For our people!" and "For Paris!" in black pen on aerial bombs minutes before a warplane is set to take off from the country's airbase in Syria.

"For our people! For Paris! Pilots and technicians of #Hmeymim airbase sent a message to terrorists by airmail," the Russian defence ministry said on its official Twitter account.

"The armed forces are conducting an aerial campaign of retribution," the defence ministry said in a separate statement, adding the military had begun coordinating their operations with the French.

Earlier this week Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to hunt down and "punish" those behind a bomb attack that brought down a passenger jet over Sinai last month, killing all 224 people, mostly Russian holidaymakers, on board.

After the carnage in Paris which claimed the lives of 130 people Putin and French President Francois Hollande agreed to "ensure closer contact and coordination" in their countries' operations in Syria.

Good point but the media campaign will say different as this goes down. I've for a while now said this is what needs to be done.

An ABC report from June 2014 concerning IS in Iraq. Syria must be as bad if not worse, since no real reporters in Syria.

Using bombing as the only strategy without having a competent well trained and equipped ground force would be the same as trying to remove the Taliban from power in Afghanistan pre US invasion. It won't happen. The ground force doesn't have to be American, or American only.
