He needs to show earnest contrition. I understand why it's frustrating for him to deal with. He's been hearing about these things for fifteen years. But most people haven't. Most people will need solid assurance that he's not a racist and that he deeply regrets that such nonsense got published in his newsletter. He also needs to provide a credible explanation of how it happened. "I didn't write them" is weak if he isn't willing to say who did. It's kind of hard to believe he doesn't know, or that he couldn't find out.How?
And even for those of us who are comfortable that he's not a racist, he needs to make the case that he won't run his administration the same way he ran his newsletter.
