Right wing philistines

Every "Creative" person I know is on Government assistance because they cannot hold down a real job. If people want to be "Creative", do it on their own time and their own dime. There are plenty of fiscally responsible ways to do that, but most "Artists" seem to prefer to collect from Uncle Sam when their arts fail to put food on the table or a roof over their heads.

I call BS. That EVERY creative person you know is on assistance. Nothing but a throw away line with nothing to back it up. Plenty of creative people earn big bucks and pay their taxes. Speilberg and Lucas are billionaires. No govt welfare there...

Last art history A-level axed after Michael Gove cull of 'soft' subjects

Its a British story but I think it applies across the world.

Apparently we dont need to know about the history of art anymore. It obviously doesnt feed the corporate machine like more "relevant" subjects such as maths or computing.

What sort of world view is this ?

Creative people help explain our world and we should encourage them.
Indeed. We should encourage expression whether we like it or not, whether we agree with it or not.

It gives us the opportunity to not only discuss and debate issues, but to identity those with whom we would rather not associate.

Unfortunately, there are people who want to impose their standards on others by inhibiting, intimidating, obstructing or even eliminating opposing views.

And, as we all know, these people exist on both ends of the political spectrum.
.
I think there has been a general move in education to value the functional to the exclusion of everything else. We are poorer for it.
The reason for the change IS financial

I don't know George Lucas or Spielberg. I know their work, but not them. They are the exception to the rules. For every one of them there are hundreds of "starving adtists". I can't say I've ever personally met a non-starving artist.

They aren't creative. They hire creative people.

It is possible for artists, writers, actors and stand up comedians to be very successful. It's just that very very few can do it. Sadly, every one of them really believes they are the next big thing. It's like these pathetic black guys in high school they don't need to read, he's going to go pro football. He's the next king rapper. Those little 500 pound baby mamas, they are all Beyonce in waiting.

Most of them are waiters and waitresses...not on the govt teet.

I couldnt invent a better example of ignorance. Thank you.
so you want schools to teach what you want them to, not what the kid wants to learn.

something private classes would guarantee.

you're such a fool and don't even know it
You miss the point in spectacular fashion. The state schools should provide opportunities that poorer parents cannot afford. We all benefit from that.
Britain doesn't have a public library system?

Get a fucking book and read it.
Our libraries are also under threat from our fuckwit government who are closing them down at an accelerated rate. Of course reading in a library is no substitute for a structured course. Where did you pick up your limited education ?
California state University, Whittier Law School.

I read widely on subjects other than in a scholastic setting. Art history is a waste of time. It should not be taught except as a separate and separately paid for course.

When the libraries are empty and unused they will be closed.
What a shame.

It is a shame, but with most families owning at least one pooter, people aren't using libraries any longer. Would you rather limited resources were spent maintaining empty libraries or put to better use?

Our local libraries are crowded, used mostly by Asians. Why are they used mostly by Asians? Because that's where they are allowed to meet their friends, in study groups.

And who cares about safe highways, bridges, transportation? Liberals do.
No they don't. What they do care about is talking about safe highways, bridges and transportation. They are like the people who start every project by making a list. Once having made the list, the project is complete.

The Right won't pass the bills.
What hogwash! Is that what passes for democrat porn. California has no right. Los Angeles has two democrats every election and no republicans. Every election the roads will be repaired. Every city councilman and every mayor runs on the very same promise 1,000 more police and the roads will be fixed. They pocket the money and nothing happens.

No, they're creative. I know several people making a living with their creativity. (Hell, one of them single-handedly kept his publisher afloat for most of a decade!) Do not project your shortcomings on others.

It is very possible fotr creative people to make a living in their art. Very few succeed. For every published writer there are thousands with drawers full of rejection slips. For every artist with salable art there are thousands with attics and garages filled to the rafters with canvases.

There is a market. Just not a huge one.

My Uncle Steve was a sheet metal worker by trade. He was laid off from one job and did a "foreigner" making some gates for a mate. He found it a real pleasure and ended up making a living from it. He had an artistic side that had never had an outlet.
Nobody had ever encouraged him and he was in his 30s before he realised his talents.
Creativity is not just writing a poem or painting a portrait. Its an absolutely massive market.
