Republicans vs. Conservatives

-Republicans are for AIDS money to Africa. Conservatives are for aid to working American citizens.

-Republicans are for letting the free market decide that $5 a gallon gas is OK. Conservatives are for compelling foreign oil producers to increase production and reduce prices, by force if necessary.

-Republicans are for bailing out billionaire money manipulators on Wall Street while you wait in line at the hospital behind an illegal alien. Conservatives are for letting Wall Street hucksters pay for their own mistakes and sending the illegal back to Mexico.

-Republicans are for letting market forces decide if your food has fecal matter in it. Conservatives are for enforcing basic food safety standards so that Mexican farm workers can't crap in the fields and make you sick.

-Republicans think bringing in illegal aliens is an amnesty. Conservatives think brining in illegal aliens is a travesty.

-Republicans want a strong global economy. Conservatives want a country. Republicans think that child porn on the internet is freedom from government. Conservatives know that smut is a poison that must be snuffed out.

I said before and I'll say it again, the GOP are not conservatives. I agree specifically these specific points by Michael Savage and not with everything that he says.

This hunt for the right label is beginning to wear me out. I'm proud to call myself a Republican and I subscribe to none of the views Savage suggests I should. I'll be damned if I'll ever be a conservative -- and yet according to Savage, these are the folks most likely to see things my way.

It's a dessert topping and a floor wax, apparently.

The Republican Party, those who are politicians, to me are not conservative all, especially on the far right. Being conservative and or liberal is not the problem, we all have views that are more or less conservative and or liberal and most Americans are some place closer to the center than on the fringe, the problem is the policies of the party, thats why I'll never identify with any party.

Fair enough. I like my local GOP and I feel I can be more effective "on the inside", but I understand why so many are independents. Trust me, I am not a true believer in all things GOP either.

True, I think that with respect to what Savage was saying, when he differentiated between Republicans and conservatives, I think his "Republicans" were the actual ones in office and more precisely, those of the Tea Party who are extremely anti-government to the point of absurdity.

God only knows what the Tea Partiers are about, Bass. Even their leaders seem to talk out of both sides of their mouth -- it is only about fiscal conservatism except when it's only about "social conservatism".

If you ask me, this is nothing more than recycled Religious Right/Moral Majority/Silent Majority propaganda and every time these people have overwhelmed the GOP, bad things have happened.

Thats true, but you know something, I believe that the more clear and level headed members of the GOP in the House and Senate are the key to change in the GOP and that their impact will only be felt when the more far right leaning people are voted out.

I'd like to believe that too, but this is at least the third wave of this crap in my lifetime (fourth, if you count McCarthyism, but I was VERY young then) and IME, this is very dangerous. The likelihood is, we'll suffer at the hands of these people for quite some time before they release their grip on power.

The GOP climbed on the backs the stupidest people in America.

I hope its prepared for the ride those socially conservative (read radically primative OT christian) fools will give it.

When Dick Cheney preferred Rush Limbaugh over Colin Powell that let me know right away the direction and mind set of the Republican Party, when Michael Steele had to lay prostrate after criticizing Limbaugh's divisive rhetoric, that again let me know the direction and mind set of the Republican party. Its a joke.

Colin Powell endorsed Obama. That told me right away the mindset of Mr. Powell: Liberal.

Yet the "stupidest people" understand the Constitution far better than that self professed "Constitutional Scholar" Obama.

So much bullshit, so little intellect. I know why the country is in such a mess.... By the evidence of this forum, not many Americans are capable of doing anything other than regurgitating the opinions of others instead of developing their own.

Obama knows the Constitution perfectly, Obama studied the Constitution because he does not believe in the Constitution nor the United States of America.

I wonder if Obama said the pledge of alliance in 1st grade, I bet not.

Bass is a poser. End of story.

I've a couple of friends like that who claim they're neutral, independent but never miss out on a good ol mouth frothing gop bash fest. Hell, I usually join in with them but the mood becomes rather somber and quiet when talking about the ills of the dems. Surprisingly, they never mention anything about the dems and how horrid they are. Maybe they're ashamed of being associated with the dems. Who knows.

Wasn't he living in Indonesia at that time? Why would anyone expect him to say the pledge of allegiance at school in Indonesia?

However, I do agree that Obama doesn't give a rat's ass about this country or its principles..... but that appears to be acceptable on the left.

Leave your personal rants to your damn self, doesn't it ever get old repeating the same personal attacks? Do you believe that the Republitards and Teabaggers know the Constitution?

Left, right, as far as I can tell that's standard for any politician.

It is the rare politician who truly does care about the country or principles, not the other way around. That, IMO, is part of the nature of politics, unfortunately.
