Republican-Heavy Counties Eat Up Most Food-Stamp Growth

By Frank Bass

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney said in May that he’d written off votes from 47 percent of Americans who are collecting government aid. Turns out many of them are part of his political base.

Seventy percent of counties with the fastest-growth in food-stamp aid during the last four years voted for the Republican presidential candidate in 2008, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data compiled by Bloomberg.

That's because Obama's put so many people out of work. And to be put out of work, you have to have had a job.

So, naturally, new recipients are Republicans.

Nice spin. Just no truth in it at all. For the last 20 years, the Red states have been the welfare states, and the Blue states, the working states that supported the willfully ignorant in the Red states.

Have you considered that some are just tax payers who register Republican so they can vote out the politicians who like giving away freebies?

I think it would make sense for people in certain areas to be more apt to vote. Only a small percent of eligible voters even bother. Maybe living in a high welfare state encourages some to actually participate in elections.

It's too hard to tell what most people in areas think about politics unless the majority of them are actually registered. It's pitiful how few exercise their right to vote.

The reason that Republican regions use more foodstamps is that they have been hit the hardest economically. Thanks to progressive loons, their primary sources of income...from resource development, industry, etc., have dried up. Progressives pool all their resources in the areas where they live..the cities. And they take everything that everybody else has in order to feed that.

So when they are looking for money, they reach out and take it from those areas that don't support them.

They shut down logging, in order to protect the forests for their enjoyment. They shut down fishing, they shut down mining, they shut down drilling, they shut down building.

And all the working people (Republicans) starve or are forced onto the dole.

Hey baby, if they are unemployed and on food stamps, they ain't workin' people. And the reason that those areas have a high unemployment rate is because they are also the areas with very low educational average. You don't locate high tech industries in areas with very low educatonial averages.

In the areas that have higher educational averages, there are jobs. But they are not jobs for laborers, they are jobs for craftsmen and technicians. And there are literally millions of these jobs going begging in our nation because of the lack of trained personnel. People that are willfully ignorant need not apply.

No there are not "literally millions" of those jobs begging in our nation because of the lack of trained personnel. Save your BS.

I call bullshit.

Gee, look at all those liberal strongholds with above-average unemployment:

Is California the welfare capital? | UTSanDiego.com

When Gov. Jerry Brown and the Legislature overhauled the state’s welfare program last month, some people learned a jarring fact for the first time: California has one-third of the nation’s welfare recipients.

That California has a lot of people on welfare was not a secret. In addition to its size, the state has a long history of heavy focus on social services, in part because of years of Democratic dominance in Sacramento.

But the size of California’s welfare rolls is disproportionate when you consider the state has only 12 percent of the nation’s population.

They also sick the EPA onto their water, sewer, trash, coal, electric & gas utilities in order to force their utilities & taxes to skyrocket.

I remember when Reagan said that we can't afford to subsidize alternative energy and conservation (while suppressing the Pentagon costs for stabilizing the Persian Gulf). Carter predicted that if we didn't slowly transition to a less petrol-intensive future, our economy would be swallowed by the $5 gallon.

Other countries have spent the last 30 years creating less petrol-intensive systems. This means that when petroleum costs rise, their economy is protected. At some point you have to reconcile short term profit with long term sustainability . . . as the waters rise and swallow your cities ... and the oil disappears.

Do you know what China was doing in Afghanistan when Obama was playing silly war games? Harvesting copper so they could move more of their energy off petroleum. China's economy has been growing three times as fast as ours, and it is strongly guided by the State - and they are making better decisions about the future than the monopolists who have captured government.

Of course, if ever there was a moonshot around using less oil, the Right would scream socialism. They don't have the courage to admit that by suppressing the real cost of oil (i.e., the cost of military stabilization) they already support a form of state mandated corporatism. Only this kind of state control doesn't benefit the largest class of Americans - it only helps the wealthy special interests which fund out elections and staff government.

No doubt
strong military
cut taxes

Of course, he did vote against the 1957 Civil Rights Act,
but being racist is nothing new for the Democrats.

The only difference today, he would just have to pick a
different race....
