Three cheers for Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) who didn’t mince words or suck up when she debated Neil Cavuto Wednesday (4/13/11) about Congressional Progressive Caucus’ People’s Budget as an alternative to the House GOP budget.

Johnson said, "I want to see some vision and planning for the future of this nation. All of us know that just cutting and doing nothing else is doing nothing more than running jobs out of the country, and getting rid of jobs that are here. We can not solve the problem by just cutting… We've got to have revenue generation, we’ve got to have money for education, we’ve got to innovate, we’ve got to create jobs."

Cavuto interrupted. "Congresswoman, we’re broke."

Johnson said, “We can not afford to allow this nation to throw away its future. We've already lost the edge."

Cavuto was a one-trick pony, essentially saying the same thing throughout the interview. "We've already lost the edge, Congresswoman, because we're so damn broke… Maybe it's time to dig out."

Johnson said, "We can not dig out by cutting all of the livelihood away from our future. We can not do it at the expense of our seniors, we can not do it at the expense of our future with our young people in education."

Cavuto interrupted. "Don't we owe those young people a debt free life? …Maybe the best present we can give them is no debt."

Johnson replied, "The best present we can give them is a good education with a good direction in innovation so that we can get this country moving. I am not willing to give all of what we’ve invested to another nation."

It went on like this until, apparently, Johnson had had enough. She said, "You don't listen, you just scream, and you're screaming the same thing these fools are screaming here... What are these kids going to do? They’ll have no education, no innovation, no health care, seniors will be out of nursing homes."

Cavuto shot back, "If you’re broke, you don’t have options… I would love to have a house in Tahiti, then I came to this annoying fact that I don't have the money."

Johnson said, "You don't get any return without investment."

"Where are you going to get it (raising money)?" Cavuto asked.

Johnson said, "Restructuring this tax code, by getting rid of the big tax breaks for the very rich, closing loopholes for the big companies, tax these companies that are getting offshore." She also mentioned the "wars that we should not have been in." She said to Cavuto, "You sit there and be as ignorant as you’d like to be." After chiding him for having gone to “hell in a handbasket,” she admonished, “You’ve got to get yourself some vision and find a way to solve this problem.”

Johnson is a top dog for standing up to Cavuto and saying there's more to deficit reduction than just cutting, there’s investing

Thread title = Untruth in advertising.

All Johnson did was snivel about how she personally didn't derive some benefit from the socialistic welfare state....Then she defaulted to the standard socialist/progressive mewling about "investing" (i.e. spending) more money and raising taxes.

Looney Tunes are less of a cartoon than the modern Democrat Party.

The only education Eddie Johnson is worried about is that of her own relatives. She sits there and she speaks of education but she was only looking out for her own and no one else.

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson violated rules, steered scholarships to relatives | Dallas-Fort Worth Communities - News for Dallas, Texas - The Dallas Morning News

She didn't break any laws

LOL I am sure that tune would be different if there was an "R" behind her name.

"If there had been very worthy applicants in my district, then I probably wouldn't have given it" to relatives

"I want to see some vision and planning for the future of our Nation"? Where has Eddie Bernice been for the last four years while democrats had total majority in congress and the last two years while democrats had total majority including a socialist president who hired a communist to represent the so-called "green jobs"? Was Eddie Bernice in some limbo land somewhere rather than representing the greatest Country in the world? How can we believe anything democrats say while they are responsible for the mess we are in and the high fuel prices that we are struggling with? Vision and planning or lack of it? That's why voters fired the democrat party last November.

It's not about Politics anymore. It's about Arithmetic.

We don't have the bloody money for these games anymore. At least the Ryan budget addresses that small, trifling inconvenience. You can try to rob the rich all you want, but they don't have the money to pay it all either, PLUS... they have the means desire and resources in which to run away from your taxation. It's happened EVERYWHERE a 'millionaires' tax is tried. That's why Andrew Cuomo just ended NY's millionaire tax.

I saw the interview as well.

I was waiting for the seniors eating catfood and kid dying in the street line.

I do agree with her on the tax code. That thing needs to go. They need to close the loopholes and get rid of the subsidies and tax breaks. We need a flat tax and get rid of the current tax clusterfuck.

I think Cavuto did great on the interview. As for her she was telling him he needed to get some vision and solve the problem. Thought that was what she and the rest of the Clowns were were in elected to do?? You know. Solve the problems. Hell they couldn't solve anything with a supermajority.

That's why you need to realize that the goals of the socialists and their useful idiots is to not solve the problem till power is permanently in their hands. Till then, they need the crisis to keep people dancing to their tune. If Daffy stops playing before he gets the Tasmania Devil in the cage, he's dead meat.

Typical idiot democrat. Doesn't understand that the nation is damn near broke and what the fuck does she think we're going to invest with? Damn liberals are fucking stupid!

Spending cuts alone aren't going to do squat. We all spent it...you and I both did. By voting (or allowing to vote in) the legislature.

Just cutting won't do it....that's not enough. We've got to raise taxes on everyone to pay down the damn debt.

Conservatives seem to want to say how terribly we're broke...Liberals know that too. In fact, the liberals are saying its EVEN WORSE than conservatives think it is!! It's so much worse...that taxes are needed.

Both sides have GOT to compromise!!! Spend less and Tax more.

I'm of the opinion that tax breaks aren't really tax breaks...it's just people getting to keep their own money. That being said, we've got to raise taxes.

Them's the breaks.

Buzzz...

First you plug the leak, then you turn attention to bailing. You don't do both at the same time. Otherwise you waste effort on both.

The simple fact is, if you stop the spending, and keep the same level of taxation, you are still collecting more money than you need to pay the bills because now you are not growing the debt. Then you just freeze spending, and pay the difference till the debt is gone. THEN you cut the excess taxation and continue on.

i saw the interview ... she's really out there...

She definitely used the talking point term of "investing" in the future. That term is Lib code for tax increases. She also went to the default "Bush's fault, 2 wars, kids are gonna starve, seniors will go without healthcare and the big wealth envy crowd pleaser.... tax cuts for millionaires. She has done her Dem homework and gets an A for most rhetoric in 1 interview.
