Remington, which made the gun used in the 2012 massacre, has received the disciplinary records, report cards and employment records of several victims.

Remington Arms subpoenaed the report cards, attendance and employment records for five children and four educators killed in the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School as part of a lawsuit brought by the victims’ families.

Lawyers for the families filed a motion to seal the information on Thursday, citing a previous order that kept Remington’s proprietary business information from being shared in the course of the proceedings. The filing argues that sharing the records ― which the school district has released to Remington’s lawyers ― amounts to an insensitive invasion of privacy.

“We have no explanation for why Remington subpoenaed the Newtown Public School District to obtain the kindergarten and first-grade academic, attendance and disciplinary records of these five school children,” the families’ lead attorney, Josh Koskoff, said in a statement to HuffPost.

The company has been embroiled in litigation with Sandy Hook families since 2014. Two years earlier, a man walked into the Newtown, Connecticut, elementary school with a Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle and used it to kill 26 people, including 20 children between the ages of 6 and 7. The families argue that the gun manufacturer should be held accountable for marketing a military-grade weapon to civilians.

“The records cannot possibly excuse Remington’s egregious marketing conduct, or be of any assistance in estimating the catastrophic damages in this case,” Koskoff said. “The only relevant part of their attendance records is that they were at their desks on December 14, 2012.”

Remington’s attorneys did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.

This seems extraordinarily bizarre to me! Does anyone have any logical guess as to why Remington would be doing this? A dead child is a dead child.

Sure. If it is indeed factual, which I doubt, they are playing the long game and making the whole process as expensive as possible. Just like anti gun attorneys do all of the time.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Why are the parents suing Remington? They didn't shoot anyone.

Is it the gunmaker's intent to use these records to prove the victims deserved to be killed?

It would be the perfect defense to pander to the trump Nazis.

Every angle must be explored. You never know what kind of kids those were.

Maybe the shooter or his mother were the teacher aid for this class and thusly a workplace shooting.

Hmm....You guys sure do love it when a child is murdered in the womb, or just out of the womb...Just like now using this event to tear up a manufacturer, because a liberal lunatic goes on a rampage and shoots up kids.........How many people will be put out of a job, on Joe Biden's watch if Remington goes bankrupt? Yeah, that would look good with the 10s union jobs lost on Joe's first day in office, the 13 marines killed by ISIS in Afghanistan and the thousands of jobs lost at Remington. Do you hate working people?

It does seem odd. With the millions at stake in this case I think the attorneys will leave no stone unturned. That tragedy was one of the worst in our history but if a gun manufacturer is held liable for how their product is misused, no manufacturer of any potentially lethal device will ever be safe again.

The premise that they created a "military" weapon is straight-up BS. That was a semi-automatic in .223 caliber. It fires one round every time you pull the trigger. If that is the definition of a "military" rifle then all semi-autos would be fair game. THAT will not be allowed. I pray this nation comes to its senses before we go down THAT road. 2A is THE hill to die on.

This is a non story.

A thread FAIL.

Unless someone actually has some information for why Remington is subpoenaing this information ..... then this is all a bunch of Leftist emotional opinion psycho BULLSHIT !!!

It is pure BS. We need a report card on why Remington is not catching up to the demand curve for ammunition as I am inclined to think the manufacturers are milking the shortage for higher prices and helping keep the supply low to keep generating the higher prices.
If we could close down another war zone or so, maybe honest sportsmen could get a peace dividend and not be taken for a ride on target range and personal defense ammunition.

Why is Remington being sued?

If a drunk driver crashes into me, do I sue those who manufactured their car?

Or do I sue the makers of the whiskey or beer?

Maybe a ground breaking action against the parents that raised such a drunk driving loser...

Ugh! Didn't even notice it was pretend news huffpoo.

That is irrelevant to the premise of this thread. The kids are dead - so why does Remington want their school records? The kids didn't commit suicide or kill each other.

Needless to say, all firearms used in hunting today whether bolt, lever action or semi-auto were originally manufactured as military firearms...
Taking it to the extreme, anti-gun nuts can make the claim then that even the Brown Bess muzzle loaded musket should be banned. It was the longest used weapon of the British and U.S. Armies.

You're right. Imagine all those knife, hammer and axe manufacturers being sued because their products were misused to kill in mass murders.

A lot of people were put out of a job when asbestos was banned, and tobacco was shown to cause cancer.
