Reid says Obamacare just a step toward eventual single-payer system - Las Vegas Sun News

In just about seven weeks, people will be able to start buying Obamacare-approved insurance plans through the new health care exchanges.

But already, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is predicting those plans, and the whole system of distributing them, will eventually be moot.

Reid said he thinks the country has to “work our way past” insurance-based health care during a Friday night appearance on Vegas PBS’ program “Nevada Week in Review.”

“What we’ve done with Obamacare is have a step in the right direction, but we’re far from having something that’s going to work forever,” Reid said.

When then asked by panelist Steve Sebelius whether he meant ultimately the country would have to have a health care system that abandoned insurance as the means of accessing it, Reid said: “Yes, yes. Absolutely, yes.”

The question is does such a system get people to work on cures for Cancer, Heart disease and painless methods that I want to see?

As long as government keeps funding the research like it does today and small government types don't keep forcing cuts. I don't see what insurance has to do with it. The insurance companies aren't funding research to any great extent and the drug companies rely heavily on basic research funded by the NIH to get a jump start on products from which they can make a profit.

I disagree. The healthcare law will make it harder to transition to a single payer system because the heart of single payer is the replacement of private insurance with government insurance and the ACA is making private health insurance an even larger party of our healthcare system.

Why not just admit it?

You too can be failures.

Give it. Just go for pure failure like the rest of the world. Go for failure.

Jeeeeeezusssssss

I hope Reid is correct but

WTH does that have to do with insurance???????????????????????

People need to wake up AND throw all these people OUT and thrown in JAIL...they purposely put ObamaCare on us against the will of the people with single payer in mind ALL ALONG..

You can blame Ronnie Ray-Gun's

SOCIALIST

EMTALA for crowded emergency rooms.

Well he didn't mean anytime soon, and I for one don't think it will happen in my lifetime. I think this is an American plan, a capitalist plan, much like the one in 2 other very capitalist countries, Switz. and Holland. The UK is single payer only because it was put in a moment of post war socialist zeal.
