"These are the values inspiring those brave workers in Poland. . . They remind us that where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost. They remind us that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. You and I must protect and preserve freedom here or it will not be passed on to our children."

    - Ronald Reagan, Labor Day speech, 9/01/80

And what thumb were the Polish people under at the time?

Chris? You have no problem with posting absurdity do you?

Chris? Context is everything. Deal with it.

30 years ago, I could smoke in a McDonalds.

How does "context" affect the fact that the father of modern conservatism is clearly advocating in favor of unions and collective bargaining?

Either Reagan was right and collective bargaining is essential for the preservation of freedom or he was a typical political hack using current headlines for personal political gain, regardless of his true feelings. Either way, it's a telling story.

    And either way, he's dead.

30 years ago, Hussein was in power, and Gadaffi was our friend (and his name wasn't Gadaffi).

    Communist Dick-tater, Conservative Dick-tater, Religious Dick-tater... What's your point?

What does it mean that Ronald Reagan is on record advocating unions and collective bargaining? Is the god of American Conservatism right, or was he a typical political hack with no scruples beyond making his own dime at the time?

He was wise IN HIS TIME.

He would be wise IN OUR TIME as well.

But he didn't live in OUR TIME.

His time was 30 YEARS AGO.

The book linked was published 20 years ago... many would argue that Reagan could EASILY be in this list if it were republished today.

Doesn't matter. I'm still taxed unfairly because of his trickle down theory.

Bullshit is bullshit, and PROFITABLE bullshit bridges political time.
