Reagan Lists FDR Among His Heroes

Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Ohanian

What's hilarious is that those policies those guys are claiming 'extended the Depression' are the kind of policies rightwingers support today, monopolies and duopolies, along with giant tax breaks and massive corporate welfare scams. Laissez faire rackets always end up in monopolies and price fixing, even today. Silly Con Valley indulges in colluding to hold down tech wages, even chicken conglomerates engage in fixing wages and prices among each other, feed companies, etc. It was 'conservative' economic policies that caused the Depression in the first place.

No Democrat in the past 40 years has sung the praises of FDR with any degree of sincerity. Obama extolled the virtues of Ronald Reagan.

Yes, Obama would definitely praise an international dope dealer and gun runner, and also loved to make deals with terrorists, too. He also happily raised taxes on working people while handing out big tax breaks to billionaires who produce nothing .

Well if you are so stupid as to love the asshole then no amount of reasoning is going to change your Moon Bat mind, is it?

FDR fucked this country several ways, Using failed Leftest government policies to fuck up the economy and extend the Great Depression is just one of them.
I’m not interested in personal attacks. I want a genuine conversation. You’re creating a disservice to our conversation here. I asked you three times now what country are you from and what is your political background? That’s the last chance man if you’re not interested and that you’re going on ignore. it’s best for both of us… I don’t have anything to hide unless you have an agenda so I want to know what country you are from and what is your political background. People have the freedom of speech to support whoever they want in America it’s important to know where we are coming from though.

E.O. 9066 stands out as the most notorious abuse of Constitutional Law since the rule of law was established. The old slick politician had a plan B when he appointed a KKK member to the S.C. Justice Black wrote the majority opinion that incarcerating Americans without due process was justified under certain circumstances.

The Empire of Japan was a fierce opponent with spies operating in every country of the world and every corner of the world.

This anti-Roosevelt criticism is bizarre and ridiculous. Here’s the bottom line our economy catapulted to number one during g so why do people criticize Roosevelt? Their scenarios make no logical sense it’s stunning when they say well any president or any person could’ve done what Roosevelt did…. or when Roosevelt critics say that Roosevelt prolonged the Great Depression or that Roosevelt was a racist.

Franklin Roosevelt inherited the worst economy the US ever saw and he along with the American citizens and Republicans and Democrats working together saved our country. It’s a shame to history that we have these anti-American propagandist literally making up history saying that Roosevelt “prolonged the depression “ instead of stating the fact that he inherited the depression and ended it.

Especially when they try and criticize Roosevelt for “Eastern Europe going communist or falling under the Soviet forces” it’s appalling Roosevelt wasn’t even alive after April 1945…. had he been alive the argument is the Cold War would’ve been avoided entirely. It was Roosevelt was able to keep together Churchill and Stalin. As for People who criticize Roosevelt some of them are actually pro hitler people with an agenda , They are anti-middle class, they cannot stand the sight of America being the number one military super power. I am so proud of America being the number one military superpower that is because we have a great government and that is watch a strong government get you the best military in the world. For all these people who don’t like to have a government.

It’s also a disservice to history to refer to Hugo black one of the most respected Supreme Court justices as a KKK member. That sounds like something someone with a “woke mentality” would say. Millions of Americans in the 20th century black and white joined questionable organizations but many of them went on to improve their life and get away from those organizations. This is a part of Christianity and civilization apart of when people change their lives for the better. And holding grudges is against Christianity.

Roosevelt was not a big government guy but he recognize the importance of government programs That can help the people.. our national parks exist to this day thanks to the works of FDRs public policies.

Of course some Republicans have always been able to scare potential middle-class voters into believing the brainwashed propaganda that unions are bad, that having a huge military is bad that we should not have a minimum wage. We should have employers being able to pay $.10 an hour to employees. We should have sweat shops . Well no way that’s not what the American Christian population thinks. We wont accept that type of nonsense in this country.

People like Roosevelt and his followers popularized a 40 hour work week, unions, a strong American middle-class, the greatest military in world history right here in America. Being proud to be an American. And Standing up to woke Ness.

Government programs like Social Security are excellent. Unions are excellent. Strong men strong women… that’s great for the country.

The arguments against Roosevelt are easily dismissed

So that and the fact that in 1937 Ethiopia had legalized slavery. The actions of the United States during World War II were admirable…. if you want to disagree with that so be it. The United States is thanked all over the world for its great contributions to World War II. So many Chinese Americans served our country in World War II. The white Americans black Americans welcomed the First Lady of China and she gave speeches in front of tens of thousands of people. This is important because some people try and claim America was anti-Asian during World War II.

The “Why we fight “ film series by frank Capra specifically highlighted that America was fighting against racism and bigotry. You know facts are on the side of those who care about history. People like me Dudley Smith and The vast vast majority of Americans stand by the heroes of American history like Roosevelt and George Washington.

There is reasonable discussions and then there are those committing a grave disservice to history. It’s no different than saying George Washington was the bad guy because he owned slaves in a time when tons of Africans and Europeans own slaves. This is not a historical discussion when people attempt to bring 21st-century moral relativism to historical discussions. Franklin Roosevelt was a liberal for his time was a hero to Asians to Jews to blacks. facts around the side of pro Americans. Facts are on the side of people who are proud of this country.

Now I respect you and I would be interested in knowing where you’re coming from. Are you a republican or a democrat? I voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and trump in 2020 myself. I’ve always considered myself to be an FDR Democrat. And I see criticism of FDR as being something from a “woke” standpoint but also from neo conservatives. I have yet to see any criticism of Roosevelt from the greatest generation of Americans the World War II generation, Trump Republicans, Eisenhower Republicans or Reagan Republicans it’s only been neo conservatives and woke people to have criticized Roosevelt. Of course I’m talking about people I have met in person and over the Internet but perhaps you can be a surprise maybe you are a democrat? Maybe you are a Reagan republican who is critical of Roosevelt?

The Peanut Gallery can easily find out what Hoover did about the Bonus Army, including the now famous Generals who were involved and their actions.
Then they would find Hoover never ordered the army to attack the Bonus protesters and that in fact the Hoovers privately supplied them with blankets.

The OP conveniently ignores that Reagan also considered Calvin Coolidge one of his personal heroes.

Rubbish. You want to believe the Army just up and assaulted their camps on their own whims then I have some chickens that solid gold eggs you would be interested in buying. I don't even know how rightwingers spin that bullshit claim for their propaganda it's so ridiculous. Ann Coulter would be proud.

President Reagan deeply admired Franklin Roosevelt citing him at his greatest hero.

it is interesting to note that all of the World War II veterans I have spoken with deeply admire Roosevelt. All of the criticism of Roosevelt is based on myths things that popped up decades after the life of Roosevelt and years after the lives of so many Americans who lived during the World War II era passed on. To this day there aren’t that many World War II veterans left but we will always know the truth Roosevelt is an American hero. Perhaps far under 1%% of the United States believes that Roosevelt was some sort of a socialist or communist Who somehow placated the Soviet union. On C-SPAN today somebody was providing the mythical view that Roosevelt let’s stolen takeover Eastern Europe. The thing is if Roosevelt lived on Pass World War II we would’ve surely avoided the Cold War so that needs to be taken into consideration.

There are also those who wrongly believe that Roosevelt prolonged World War II or prolonged the depression. But Roosevelt inherited the great depression and the end result matters… he led us to victory in World War II and he led us to having the greatest military and the greatest economy in the world. Before World War II the US military was 18th in the world behind Romania, but after World War II we were the number one military superpower. And that was because we had good leader ship as well as a great American citizenry that worked very hard at the factories and in the education system. And that did not have to happen, none of that had to happen…. if we were led by an isolationist in Ww2 or a poor leader who didn’t know how to handle things we would’ve lost World War II and who knows how the world would look today. Franklin Roosevelt was the strong leader to stand up to Hideki Tojo, Mussolini and Hitler. Other people would have shivered in their boots perhaps. The magnitude of it all of leading the greatest army the allied forces. Roosevelt is the leader of the allied forces even when people and the Soviet union looked at World War II they would always say Roosevelt front and center in between Churchill and Stalin showcasing a sign of strength… American strength. Roosevelt was very important in bringing together Churchill and Stalin… in bringing together the communist forces and the monarchy.

The great men and women from the World War II generation, the senior citizens of the United States who are alive to this day who lived during World War II overwhelmingly support FDR if not all of them support FDR. And the types of people who criticize Roosevelt they are born decades after World War II many of them are not Americans they come from different countries some even have pro Third Reich type views. Or agendas for some matter. But I solidify my views I cite Ronald Reagan a conservative American hero as to why all of the masculine Americans, the conservative Americans from the 70s 80s 90s would generally agree with me with all agree with the World War II veterans that Roosevelt was the greatest president of American history. No man is perfect George Washington, Abraham Lincoln Franklin Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan included… but for so many Americans common citizen and historian alike these men are ranked as the top four presidents of all time.

“Washington Journal

Craig Shirley on His Book, April 1945

Author and historian Craig Shirley talked about his book, April 1945: The Hinge of History, and news of the day.”

of the very small percentage of Americans who called in to criticize Roosevelt. Their arguments were as follows. They criticize Roosevelt for racism, for apparently prolonging the depression and for somehow causing the deaths of Americans that was not needed. Somebody had claimed 100,000 Americans died because of Roosevelt without evidence. All of these points have a valid and logical counter response. Let’s take a look at one of the most abused myths against Roosevelt that he was a racist or antisemite. ….well the United States compared to every country of the world was probably the most liberal. Remember that in 1937 Ethiopia had legalized slavery, let’s not even begin to say what the Empire of Japan and the third Reich were doing to there own citizens and their political opponents of course. that’s why it is clearly agenda driven when people on the right or Republicans criticize Roosevelt for his treatment of African Americans or American Japanese these same Republicans are critical of BLM. Rightfully critical of BLM but they are hypocrites for the criticism of Roosevelt because they are of course attempting to buy political points. And beyond that one cannot use 2022 morales when they are looking at the 1940s. It is irresponsible to history.

When in fact the Tuskeegee airmen the black African-American men who served the United States military in ww2 …went on to praise Roosevelt as a great man. That was the viewpoint of Roscoe Brown One of the Tuskegee airmen who served in World War II. So when I hear that it’s all the evidence I need to hear. Also the United States took on more Jewish refugees than any other country during World War II. The ms St. Louis The ship of Jewish refugees was actually sent to an allied country. The ms St. Louis propaganda is used against Roosevelt to this day and its reckless. The idea being that the United States sent away a ship of Jewish refugees back to Nazi Germany. No couldn’t be any further from the truth in the late 30s a ship of Jewish refugees tried to get to the United States but we were unable to accommodate…. the ship was then sent to an allied country that was later overran by the third Reich. What is not mentioned by the propagandists is that the United States had taken on more Jewish refugees than any other country during World War II. And in the course of history there are plenty of cases where some number of refugees and immigrants are turned away from coming to the country. The United States has turned away many non-Jewish immigrants and refugees by the way so there’s that. So basically there’s no logic no common sense toward the viewpoint that FDR with some kind of a bad guy or some kind of a racist.

Overwhelmingly American Jews supported Franklin Roosevelt. Over 80% of American Jews supported him at the polls during the elections.

So it’s interesting that the few Republicans who criticize Roosevelt are the same people who claim the Democrats are the party of race politics. And they are right the Democrats of today are the party of race politics and it has caused division in our country…. it’s all the more reason why we need all the Americans we can to recall the legacy of great figures of history like FDR as to help our country out today.

My position is that the Democratic Party today needs to be more like the democratic party of the Roosevelt era. And I would cite Ronald Reagan as to why Republicans can join Democrats of today in order to look up to the legacy of Franklin Roosevelt for advice.

The active duty U.S. military does not always strictly obey orders.

Rubbish. They will do what they're told, an dif it's controversial they will have their office hand pick men to do the job, same as Lincoln did when he raised a 75,000 man force to control the ballots and voting in the border states. So who were those men in uniform? Martians? Rotarians? Finns? That act got FDR elected, so in the long term it was a blessing for millions of Americans, including veterans and their families. Hoover was a vicious loser, as was the GOP in general.

lol fake news.

www.nber.org/papers/w0088.pdf

Your 'UCLA economists' faked stats for their claims; they have as much credibility as you do, poopface. lol

THE AMERICAN CITIZENS.
you’re talking about the 1940s. That approaches to similar to saying George Washington was a bad guy because he own slaves. Now that doesn’t make any sense you see George Washington owned slaves in a time when Black people owned slaves as well. FDR was making decisions when Adolf Hitler was making decisions. Who is more humane FDR, Hitler or any other world leader of the 1940s? This is serious stuff. And it is a disservice to history to criticize Roosevelt when we compare his actions to other world leaders of the time.

It’s really anti-patriotic to criticize Roosevelt with the woke approach, the few people in here criticizing Roosevelt are in the same category as BLM people. Having a woke approach to ww2 is wrong.

Hey brother There has been so much massive information in this thread you are choosing to concentrate on one thing. And you’re not talking about the fact that the US was more liberal than any country of the world.

The United States in interning some number of German, Japanese and Italian citizens was something that compared to world history was light. It is a massive disservice to history to try and call Roosevelt a criminal.

And the fact that the Empire of Japan had spies operating in every country. Japanese people are fiercely intelligent there’s no doubt they had spies that probably got away with things that we never even found out about. Because a good spy never gets caught. And that’s the things that the anti-Rosevelt people never take into consideration.

And the fact that we did not intern every single Japanese citizen and the fact that so many Asian Americans the Chinese Americans proudly serve their country. We were fighting the empire of Japan.

Thank God FDR was our president…we would have lost World War II if we had a weak person in there.

Most folks can approach these topics with logic.

But the criticism of Roosevelt is against logic. And of course a criticism of Roosevelt is the claim that he was a racist or antisemite, that he or the United States was evil for interning potential spies in the 1940s during World War II.

Some people don’t like Roosevelt because They see him as a socialist or communist so some of those same people will then use any sort of criticism of Fdr they can imagine. Even if some of those same people might view Japanese emperors of the middle ages or samurais as heroes or they might view people of the Middle Ages or post Middle Ages who owned slaves as heroes. So those people are hypocrites they want to criticize Roosevelt for his controversial actions.

Any admirers of Japanese history here?. Japan and Japanese history is also like American history filled with controversy it has its good moments and it’s bad moments . So if somebody wants to try and claim FDR was the bad guy or somehow intolerant …..what do those same people say about any Japanese figure of history who had controversy? OK Japan has a history that has thousands of years old so there’s plenty of figures from Japanese history Who are deeply loved admired ..some people might even use their photos as avatars on Internet forms…. certainly Japanese culture is respected in the west in so many ways.

But it’s not just Japan. It’s any country or culture you could imagine. The people who are criticizing Roosevelt if they come from say a country in Africa or the Middle East it’s the same thing. They probably have a figure of African or Middle Eastern history they deeply admire but that figure like Franklin Roosevelt is being wrongly criticize somewhere. People need to take into context what time period We were discussing and how society acted back then.

It is easy to spot it when you have people who admire certain figures of history who owned slaves(including Jews of the Old Testament and Jews of history), committee controversial acts but then go on to criticize Franklin Roosevelt for whatever their criticizing Roosevelt for. This is hypocrisy.

I see the same thing from misguided Black Lives Matter supporters. They see the world only in their eyes not from a global perspective. They say the 400 years a slave argument which is selfish because when Black people were slaves in America white people were slaves in other areas of the world. When Japanese Americans were interned in Japan Jews were being annihilated in concentration camps, Ethiopia had legalize slavery until 1937, the British were criticize for their actions against Hindus in the British raj in India. Chinese were reportedly brutalized by the Japanese numerous times. Some say that the Japanese treatment of the Chinese was the worst case of humanity during World War II ….. so that is a context and it is irresponsible to history to not bring up the historical context when we’re talking about American actions during World War II.

Make no mistake I’m all about freedom of speech and I welcome the people criticizing Roosevelt. The real bottom line for me I just want to know what country these folks are from and what is their political background. Because I respect free speech we have a disagreement that’s fine ….but I want to know where people are coming from because this is what shapes our political outlooks.
