Raul Castro: thanks USA but affirms Cuba Communist Rule

Off what streets? Did you not say yesterday this is our system not yours? If you live in the UK as you claim - what is it to you what America does or does not do? It simply isn't your business because these are not your streets. You take care of your own streets, Cnm. It should keep you busy for the next millenium as I hear your crime rate is higher than the USA's. Sounds like major trouble over there.
You appear to be leaping to conclusions.

Nixon normalized relations with China and Clinton normalized relations with Vietnam. What's so special about Cuba? We never even fought a war against them.

True. Which is why I am wondering what does Raul Castro mean when he says, We won the war. Cuba won the war? What war? The war of Communism taking over? Is America now a Communist nation - is that what he means? What say you, Konradv?

The US should allow Americans to travel and conduct business with Cuba regardless of who won the war.

But Raul may be onto something - they won the intellectual war since the US is fast moving towards socialism.

.

Cuba isn't a socialist country. They are a communist country.

Same thing.

About your comment "intellectual warfare"........
Interesting quote I'd like to give you here...

From a former KGB expert on Subversive techniques - Yuri Bezmenov said this:

The highest arch of warfare is not to fight at all but to subvert anything of value in the country of your enemy until such a time that the perception of reality of your enemy is screwed up to such an extent that he does not perceive you as an enemy and that your system, your civilization (communism) look to your enemy as an alternative. In other words, better red than dead.

___________
Interesting to see where we are today as Yuri said that back in 1983 or thereabouts.

There is no foreign subversion.

We have our own domestic stupid fucks who have been trying to implement socialism since the 1860's.

We must change direction in 2017...pick your leaders carefully.

I believe we are past that point now, Deltex. What we can do is - as a people we can choose to change our direction individually and call on Jesus Christ to become our Lord and Savior and to commit our lives to abiding in Him. Then Psalm 91 will become ours and when the day of trouble hits we will be abiding under His Shadow and will fear no evil. That is the individual choice of all Americans at this hour. To call upon the LORD and be saved and live for him or to perish in the upcoming days ahead of America. Our nation is under the judgment of God - I do not believe that will change. I do believe people can be saved still but the nation? No.
I am in great shape for the next life, Jeremiah. The nuns, brothers and Jesuits prepared me well. They didn't do such a great job preparing me for surviving on earth...but luck, hard work, a few good choices, and luck pulled me thru to a comfortable life. I don't want it destroyed for my grandkids...and I would go to hell to prevent such an outcome.

I don't care what Raul Castro says or thinks. I care about the Cuban people and they want normalization. Castro is just trying to save face. He'll be dead soon and doesn't really count except as a relic of the past. His words are no reason to delay normal relation, particularly in light of the fact that we have them with China and Vietnam.

I doubt that many Cubans are going to think that the US is kowtowing to the Cuban government by this change in policy.
I imagine their hope is the change will bring them freedom and prosperity. Can you name a communist country with those benefits?

Actually, Cuba has less extreme poverty than other Latin Countries, higher literacy rates, better healthcare....

None of these are at US levels but compared to their South American neighbours they are in relative good shape. Crime Rates a fraction of other Latin Countries (1/4 homicide of Mexico)

Cuba has a close to 100% literacy rate and has done this by not having the extreme rich and poor of the other societies in Latin America. This done through communism, while not agreeing with them I see why they have kept it the way they did.

Why is it our business that cuba is communist?
Why is it our business that ebola is in Liberia?

Because it could possibly spread to America? What is the difference between Ebola and Communism? Look at the fruit of both and there is not much difference. The only way to not get infected by it is to keep it out of your country.
Kinda like forcing folks to become Christians or be burned at the stake? Yeah. Like that.

It's a wonder anyone would ever want to leave.

"Raul Castro: thanks USA but affirms Cuba Communist Rule"

Obviously you don't understand how this works.

It's naïve, ignorant, and ridiculous to infer that normalizing diplomatic relations with Cuba would turn Cuba into a free market democracy overnight.

It does appear that we are "normalizing relations" with a communist nation now. Cuba. Will we be "normalizing relations" with North Korea next?

Vietnam?
That communist government, the one that kicked your collective arses in the Vietnam war, is now a US partner in the region, and your tax dollars are being used to send weapons to them.
Given Cuba has never attacked, defeated and humiliated you, it seems like a nothing thing to worry about that country when you're arming a country that fucked you over.
