Tom Clancy, the best-selling author whose espionage thrillers set the bar for military , died Tuesday night, the New York Times reported.

He was 66.

Awww crap. I loved all of his books. In fact I have most of them.

What a great author and one that will certainly be missed.

Jack Ryan was one of my favorite characters.

What a shame.

His books were good, but I never liked how idealized his military characters were. He never had guys just there to get a GI Bill, or the supply clerk selling off the government one piece of equipment at a time, or officer climbing the ranks on the backs of careers he destroyed, or even pieces of equipment that never seemed to work the way it should.

Although I haven't read any of his work I know he wrote excellent books about espionage and the military.... RIP Tom Clancy.

Clancy was such a skilled researcher that the boobs in the CIA thought he was a spy because his first novel was so detailed. They didn't know the "secret" stuff was in the public domain.
