Putin To Western Elites: Play-Time Is Over

Is Putin wrong in his summation of American and western allies foreign intervention?

I think he nails it.

"Instead of settling conflicts it leads to their escalation, instead of sovereign and stable states we see the growing spread of chaos, and instead of democracy there is support for a very dubious public ranging from open neo-fascists to Islamic radicals.

Why do they support such people? They do this because they decide to use them as instruments along the way in achieving their goals but then burn their fingers and recoil.

I never cease to be amazed by the way that our partners just keep stepping on the same rake, as we say here in Russia, that is to say, make the same mistake over and over.

They once sponsored Islamic extremist movements to fight the Soviet Union.

Those groups got their battle experience in Afghanistan and later gave birth to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

The West if not supported, at least closed its eyes, and, I would say, gave information, political and financial support to international terrorists’ invasion of Russia (we have not forgotten this) and the Central Asian region’s countries.

Only after horrific terrorist attacks were committed on US soil itself did the United States wake up to the common threat of terrorism.

Let me remind you that we were the first country to support the American people back then, the first to react as friends and partners to the terrible tragedy of September 11.

During my conversations with American and European leaders, I always spoke of the need to fight terrorism together, as a challenge on a global scale. We cannot resign ourselves to and accept this threat, cannot cut it into separate pieces using double standards.

Our partners expressed agreement, but a little time passed and we ended up back where we started.

First there was the military operation in Iraq, then in Libya, which got pushed to the brink of falling apart. Why was Libya pushed into this situation? Today it is a country in danger of breaking apart and has become a training ground for terrorists.

Only the current Egyptian leadership’s determination and wisdom saved this key Arab country from chaos and having extremists run rampant.

In Syria, as in the past, the United States and its allies started directly financing and arming rebels and allowing them to fill their ranks with mercenaries from various countries.

Let me ask where do these rebels get their money, arms and military specialists? Where does all this come from? How did the notorious ISIL manage to become such a powerful group, essentially a real armed force?

As for financing sources, today, the money is coming not just from drugs, production of which has increased not just by a few percentage points but many-fold, since the international coalition forces have been present in Afghanistan.

You are aware of this. The terrorists are getting money from selling oil too. Oil is produced in territory controlled by the terrorists, who sell it at dumping prices, produce it and transport it.

But someone buys this oil, resells it, and makes a profit from it, not thinking about the fact that they are thus financing terrorists who could come sooner or later to their own soil and sow destruction in their own countries.

Where do they get new recruits? In Iraq, after Saddam Hussein was toppled, the state’s institutions, including the army, were left in ruins. We said back then, be very, very careful.

You are driving people out into the street, and what will they do there? Don’t forget (rightfully or not) that they were in the leadership of a large regional power, and what are you now turning them into?

What was the result? Tens of thousands of soldiers, officers and former Baath Party activists were turned out into the streets and today have joined the rebels’ ranks.

Perhaps this is what explains why the Islamic State group has turned out so effective? In military terms, it is acting very effectively and has some very professional people.

Russia warned repeatedly about the dangers of unilateral military actions, intervening in sovereign states’ affairs, and flirting with extremists and radicals.

We insisted on having the groups fighting the central Syrian government, above all the Islamic State, included on the lists of terrorist organizations.

But did we see any results? We appealed in vain."

Nah, Putin is the great survivor. Whenever something goes wrong he lynches another oligarch, nationalizes a company, invades a country like Ukraine, or goes after 'foreigners' and LGBT people.

But his head squeeze is gone!

He is running out of groups to persecute, marginalize, and blame for all Russia's problems. Blaming the west for all Russia's problems, invading other countries, creating their own 'great firewall', and shutting down all free press in Russia is the only card Putin has left to play.
Shutting down the free press might save this country too.

Oh kiss my ass on criticizing Russia for invading other countries since the fall of the USSR.

Hypocrite. Shall we start to count the number of invasions and interventions of the US and the West since the 90's?

Seriously Putin is spot on in this speech. He lays it on the line about the bloody mess currently called the Middle East. This current insanity that is playing out is completely the fault of Obama/Harper/Cameron and other western leaders.

Hell's bells Libyan militias now have control of one fifth of the world's oil supplies and are having pool parties at the US Embassy in Tripoli.

The west has completely FUBAR'D the ME that at the best of times has barely been civil.

Now it's a complete disaster and our leaders have been assholes to try to overthrow a whack of fairly decent leaders as far as dictators go and instead try to give the ME the Muslim Brotherhood.

Hell's bells Obama is still trying to take out Assad. Fools never learn.

I was talking about Ukraine, and you applied the cold war analogy, not me. You are welcome to still live in the cold war.

How many invasions and interventions did Ukraine carry out since the 90s, how many did Russia, how about Russia supporting the Serbs in their little war? And trying to equate every western nation as being America won't really work for Putin, unless he can convince Russians that 'evil gays from Amsterdam' have portable nuclear weapons, created Hitler clones, and are bent on global domination.

And? Assad, Saddam, and Gaddafi were in Russian pay sheets as much as western ones, don't see this invisible moral high ground, can't really find it - I can find Chechnya though and the former states of Yugoslavia, now that is a mess Russia did create (and there are Muslims too).
Hell's bells Libyan militias now have control of one fifth of the world's oil supplies and are having pool parties at the US Embassy in Tripoli.
I didn't support the war in Iraq or the intervention in Libya. Though airstrikes are hardly boots on the ground in Libya, and no one can predict the result of revolutions, some are like in Tunisia and others like Libya.
The west has completely FUBAR'D the ME that at the best of times has barely been civil.
Yeah, we are planning to elect Darth Vader President, and invade Naboo. The Death Star is planned next year, the west really needs to build this 'evil empire' thing so you can get butt hurt over everything.
Now it's a complete disaster and our leaders have been assholes to try to overthrow a whack of fairly decent leaders as far as dictators go and instead try to give the ME the Muslim Brotherhood.
Its funny you should say that, considering that Egyptians rose up twice, without US support or intervention.
Hell's bells Obama is still trying to take out Assad. Fools never learn.
I hope he does, Assad is a ruthless dictator like his father.

In the here and now. Under the bullshit of an Arab Spring the west forced Mubarak to step down and assisted Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood to rise to power. The US was in the thick of it.

Obama really does love his Sunnis. The straw that broke the proverbial camels back in Egypt was when that idiotic puppet the west put in place was going to appoint the new Governor of Luxor. A terrorist.

A well known terrorist who plotted the terror attack that killed close to 70 tourists.

Hell's bells it pushed Egyptians over the edge and they rose up and overthrew the Muslim Brotherhood.

And don't hand me bullshit that the US wasn't involved. For crying out loud Obama sent McCain and Graham over to Egypt to beg that Morsi and MB members not be arrested.

It's freaking history jack.

Libya. Good grief the west had no business taking out Ghaddafi. But we did.

Pool parties at the embassy in Tripoli by militias just having a blast. We completely fucked up another country. And gave lawless militias control of one fifth of the world's oil supply.

On to Syria. You've got no business one more time messing with another country. None. Zip. Nada.

Obama's fucked up everything he has touched.

And Assad a horrible dictator? Versus handing the country over to the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood? Or ISIS?

You've got to be fucking kidding me.

Syria in 2009-2010 had as much freedom as Zimbabwe, perhaps less*. The Muslim Brotherhood is no worse than the theocracy in Iran, and ISIS exists because of a Shiite-Sunni divide that has been around for far longer than the US has been a nation.

ISIS in its current form became the powerhouse it is because of the bloody interference of the west in Syria. Left a huge power vacuum and frankly everyone turned a blind eye to ISIS and al Nusra because they didn't give a shit who took out Assad.

And the Muslim Brotherhood are terrorists. Of that there is no doubt. And we in the west have absolutely no right whatsoever of imposing our leaders fave Sunni group on any nation in the ME.

If you think that the Muslim Brotherhood is such a great crew you're whacked out. Just ask Coptics in Egypt how they were treated by the MB.

Where did I say they are great. I just said they are no worse/better than the theocracy in Iran. The 'Muslim Brotherhood' are not all 'terrorists', though obviously some of them are, considering it has been around since 1928, is in multiple countries, and not every faction of the Muslim Brotherhood is peaceful. Then the theocracy in Iran, started with plenty of violence and bloodshed, just like when Assad's father took power in Syria. Though the Brotherhood committed less human rights abuses than either the theocracy in Iran, or the dictatorship in Syria, when it was in power in Egypt.

The haters don't stop but want to be like the Russians its incredible corruption, lack of free press, extreme nationalism, screwy religious fundamentalism.

And defense of American is equated in the far right's mind with defense of Obama.

Far right weirdness.

President Putin was correct in identifying the United States of America as the enemy of the world. That would be obola's America.[/QUOTE]

What a fucked up bitch you are saying AMERICA is the ENEMY of the world. I mean you are fucked up.
Bet you'd like to suck Putins dick wouldn't ya? Commie bitch.

Anyone who says Russia is the world's friend and it is all America's fault is an anti-American commie.

The far right on this board clearly reveal their fascist desire to take over the state and punish the rest of America.

Hmmm
Looking at the statement/words alone, very reasonable and supportable.
However, given that like politicians everywhere what is said has damn little to do with how they act, taking this with a grain of salt would be understandable.

President Putin correctly identifies obola's support for radical islam and questions the wisdom of that support.

That's what Russia has, we have a moron who doesn't even know how many states are in the USA

They have a guy who has destroyed their economy in an effort to make himself more popular. He's cried wolf many times, like threatening nukes and so on, but has, at times take land when he feels like it and the situation suits him.

Compare this to Bush, who destroyed the economy, and invaded countries.

Kind of easy to see why the right would side more with Putin than Obama really.
