President Trump: US Can’t Afford Veterans’ Health Care Without Cuts

https://veterans.house.gov/uploadedfiles/va_mission_act_summary.pdf

This is the act Trump just signed................

Again..........Congress and especially Dems are blocking new spending..................WHY?
Because Trump shifted the funding from mandatory to discretionary and the discretionary budget was already legislated. At least that is my understanding.
The asked for money in that large spending bill to expand Choice............it was denied or the gov't shutdown would have happened.

Then they said the Choice program wasn't working.........So the compromise bill........but it needs funding.........so they are asking to cut other areas to fund it.......

Congress is in dead lock over it. They need to do their job............

As soon as government got into healthcare, like with Medicare and Medicaid, prices went up for everyone else. Once Big Pharma knew there were deep pockets paying the bills, prices went up. They also went way up after Obamacare passed. Big Pharma loved Obamacare because they were set to profit bigger than ever. It's no different than college tuition skyrocketing after government got into the student loan business.

There are a lot of things we could cut to ensure more could be spent on the VA. We owe these folks.

It sounds to me like the President and his party are blocking the funding.

Democrats have pushed to remove spending caps on the department to ensure funding can be adjusted to necessary levels. But Republicans in Congress and the White House have thus far pushed against that effort, preferring instead to find cuts elsewhere in the funding package to offset the costs.

Senator Flake Releases "Wastebook: PORKémon Go" to Catch Federal Waste

Below are five of the programs Flake highlights:

  • The “Spaceport to Nowhere” ($80.4 million) – The Pacific Spaceport Complex-Alaska (PSCA) was founded in 1996 with an $18 million earmark. It has been seldom used since its founding and is now in disrepair as a result of a 2014 failed launch. Last year, the Missile Defense Agency awarded a “sole source” contract for up to $80.4 million to keep the base open.
  • The “Hologram Comedy Club” ($1.7 million) – The Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration awarded a $1.7 million contract to the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York, to resurrect dead comedians, such as Lucille Ball and Richard Pryor, through holographs.
  • The “Fish on a Treadmill” ($1.5 million) – Researchers at the University of California-San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography received a grant to study how well mudskippers, a fish that can survive long amounts of time out of water and can walk with its front flippers, could walk on a treadmill.
  • The Computers That Binge-Watch “Desperate Housewives” ($460,000) – The Department of Defense’s Office of Naval Research and the National Science Foundation funded a study in which computers binge-watched 600 hours of “Desperate Housewives,” “The Office,” and other TV shows and online videos in order to train computers to predict human behavior.
  • The “Angry Birds” in Ohio ($118,000) – The Department of Agriculture’s National Wildlife Research Center in Ohio recently funded a study assessing the speed a car or truck needs to be traveling to hit a bird before it can fly to safety.

The articles I posted showed Dems blocking it as well............Most of the blocking is in the Senate........carrying on the tradition of a graveyard of bills sent to them from the House.

If both sides didn't play games with it.............It would already be done.

Budget shortfall of 1.6 billion starting in 2019..........so we still have time to find that 1.6 billion for the Choice program....but there was a compromise bill I already posted for 55 Billion...........

Other actions are needed.............why the funding is needed.

White House: U.S. Can’t Afford Veterans’ Health Care Without Cuts

Seriously? This administration gave a $1.5 trillion tax cut to the 1%. Now they're telling us they can't afford health care for those of us who put on a uniform to serve our country. This is shameful.
Seriously? That is his point, I believe.

He will give it, he just wants it offset by other cuts in other areas of government. And we all know there is waste everywhere-

In a letter Monday, the Trump administration demanded that lawmakers fund a popular veterans’ health-care program — which allows former troops to spend public funds on private doctors and hospitals — with cuts to other parts of the budget. Democrats, and some top Senate Republicans, prefer to raise the current caps on discretionary spending instead.

Where do you get the idea that "there is waste everywhere"?

Hearsay? Just something that you assume because 'everybody' says so?

Or is it that you consider 'waste' to be anything that doesn't benefit you specifically?

We have government "for the people", meaning government for ALL Americans, not just you or what you approve of.

2018 Annual Report: Additional Opportunities to Reduce Fragmentation, Overlap, and Duplication and Achieve Other Financial Benefits

Every year, we identify and report on federal agencies, programs, and initiatives with fragmented, overlapping, or duplicative goals or activities; and ways to reduce costs or enhance revenue. The government saves money when it takes the actions we've proposed—saving an estimated $178 billion so far by fully or partially addressing 76% of our recommendations.

In our 8th annual report, we identified 68 new actions that Congress and executive branch agencies could take to improve operations across government.

Fully addressing these and remaining actions from our prior reports could lead to tens of billions of dollars of additional savings.
