The press likes having a captive they can abuse. At one time something similar was called bear baiting. A bear was tied up while dogs savaged the animal who could not fight back. The Correspondent's dinner was supposed to keep Trump in his seat while the press and Hollywood amused themselves by being abusive. Of course he was right not to go. Only an utter fool would have gone.
