A question for anyone who thinks of themselves as being anything to the Left of Dead Center:

I'm constantly told that the Left wants America to be just like Venezuela, that's there is essentially no difference between Venezuela and social democratic countries like Canada, Australia, Germany & Finland.

So, do you want America to be just like Venezuela, and if so, WHY, dammit!
.

No, as a person on the left, Maduro is a moron. He's the sort of guy who puts his own political success above that of his country.
Agreed much like Obama.

No, not really.

Maduro is one step up from Obama's level.
Maybe but I tend to think nearly all politicians put their success above that of their country. It is their nature no matter where they are from. Obama was certainly no exception

Most politicians who get high up are like that. But people like Maduro, Corbyn in the UK, they live in a world where they have to always be political. Who they marry, who they're seen with, what team they support, it's all political. They've been living this their whole life.

Actually no, I didn't. It's my interpretation of where I think the Left wants us to go.

Maybe you think it's Venezuela, I don't know.
.

When you say Republicans think Venezuela is like Canada, Australia, Germany & Finland the assertion is Venezuela is different/wrong and that those countries are models the US should emulate.
No, what I'm saying is that Republicans keep saying that the Dems want us to be like Venezuela, and not those other countries.

This isn't that complicated.

I don't know why they keep saying that, and they won't tell me. So, I'm asking the lefties if it's true.
.

So the other countries got socialism right ?
Holy crap.

You appear to be the only person here who is completely confused by this thread. I've tried to help, but I'm failing. Not sure what else to tell you.

I am not confused in the least.

Are Canada, Australia, Germany & Finland the models for Social Democracy as opposed to Venezuela which is put forth as the model by detractors ?

I believe that is the Left's position, yes.

And I wonder why so many on the Right can't seem to see that.

Any guesses?

Nobody argued that... but do keep up with your straw men, Stormy Mac.
Ditto

Is there a point to all these?

I was hoping you'd answer my question.

There is....... your identified utopia is utopia by your description only
Utopia? My identified utopia? My description? Are you capable of being honest?

You folks really are locked in your own little universe.

And I see you're avoiding my question, still.

No surprise. No problem.
.

I avoid nothing...what question hasn't been answered ?

You put forth those countries as the shining example of socialism opposed to Venezuela.

In your mind only. That's one of several straw men you've tossed out.

And I'll be happy to ask again: Why does the Right keep pretending that the Left wants us to be like Venezuela?

Not expecting a straight answer, by the way.
.

If America was like Venezuela would it have its own "America" undermining its democracy ?
No
America Would Have Progs Rotting It From Within

Like Venezuela, Argentina
Or Any Other Western Socialist Democracy
You Care To Choose

I don't think they do....what evidence do you have ?

Seeing the track record of socialism though history "The right" fears we will become like Venezuela.
