A question for anyone who thinks of themselves as being anything to the Left of Dead Center:

I'm constantly told that the Left wants America to be just like Venezuela, that's there is essentially no difference between Venezuela and social democratic countries like Canada, Australia, Germany & Finland.

So, do you want America to be just like Venezuela, and if so, WHY, dammit!
.

I am not left of center but my question to Mac is, what makes you think it's possible for US to become just like Finland? An almost 100% white nation that is smaller than one of our cities population wise. A nation whose social programs started from position of strength and resources, not of a 150 trillion unfunded liability.

The result will be Venzuela or perhaps more like Argentina.

Two different countries will never be "just like" each other. This all exists on a continuum, including America.

Always with the continuum.

I meant that what makes you think US could become a social democracy from the current position? The social democracies just like social security in US started from a position of strength. Now people can't even figure their genders as a result of those policies among other things.

Where is the money going to come from?

Nobody argued that... but do keep up with your straw men, Stormy Mac.

Where is the money going to come from?
Decreased spending (most likely the military would see the biggest cuts) and significantly increased personal income taxes on higher earners.

And by the way, I'm not advocating anything specifically. I'm just pointing out the obvious, which appears to have been lost in this overall conversation.

You actually think that "significantly" increased taxes on high income earners is enough to pay for it?

The aggregate tax rate in Finland is almost 60%, and they too can't pay for it currently. They also have mandatory military service so get ready to be drafted.

It doesn't matter whether you are advocating for something - social democracy is not wanted here, nor can we pay for it. What the leftists want is to loot free stuff, as always.

No, as a person on the left, Maduro is a moron. He's the sort of guy who puts his own political success above that of his country.

I'm not arguing the merits. I'm just pointing out how the Right constantly conflates Venezuela with those other countries I listed. I don't know if that's out of ignorance or intellectual dishonesty.

So, I'd like to know if they're right.

Agreed much like Obama.

I want America to worry more about helping its working people than helping its billionaires

No, not really.

Maduro is one step up from Obama's level.

But yet you compare us to other countries in your op.

For fucks sake.
Actually no, I didn't. It's my interpretation of where I think the Left wants us to go.

Maybe you think it's Venezuela, I don't know.

Maybe but I tend to think nearly all politicians put their success above that of their country. It is their nature no matter where they are from. Obama was certainly no exception

When you say Republicans think Venezuela is like Canada, Australia, Germany & Finland the assertion is Venezuela is different/wrong and that those countries are models the US should emulate.
