While i know PETA has a bug up thier ass for anything involving animals and people within 50 feet of them, when it comes to pidgeon racing, I really dont see it.
All you are doing is releasing the pidgeon away from its roost, and having it fly back. If the pidgeon doesnt want to go back, its basically free at this point and can go wherever the fuck it wants to. The biggest risk is from predatory birds like hawks, that love themselves a good pidgeon meal.
Its the whole circle of life thing, with birds!
