Due to "abnormally thick, and extensive sea ice". Looks like all of olfrauds, and the other GW faithful, were wrong. Who knew...

"Mass starvation has wiped out thousands of penguin chicks in Antarctica, with unusually thick sea ice forcing their parents to forage further for food in what conservationists Friday called a "catastrophic breeding failure".

French scientists, supported by WWF, have been studying a colony of 18,000 pairs of Adelie penguins in East Antarctica since 2010 and discovered only two chicks survived the most recent breeding season in early 2017.

They attributed the disaster to extensive sea ice late in the summer, meaning the adult penguins had to travel further to find food, with the chicks dying as they waited."

Mmmmh....but yet...

Yan Ropert-Coudert, senior penguin scientist at Dumont D'Urville research station, adjacent to the colony, said the region was impacted by environmental changes linked to the breakup of the Mertz glacier.

"The conditions are set for this to happen more frequently due to the breaking of the Mertz glacier in 2010 that changed the configuration of the stretch of sea in front of the colony," he told AFP

Which addresses the increased thickness of the ice how? Yes, the glacier broke up. That's what they do. Glaciers are constantly on the move, either advancing or retreating. The sea ice thickness has nothing to do with that however, that is a seasonal change derived from ocean temps in the local region.

It is a truly sad fate for the penguins though. Four years ago they had no chicks survive, and this year they had two survive. That is catastrophic beyond belief.

Whelp ---- everybody, when Iceberg first posted this same story this morning.

Oopsie.

I didn't even know penguins had sex.

One year of thick sea ice in one specific location doesn't make climate scientists wrong. What a very dishonest and unscientific thing for you to say. You don't get to claim any scientific authority on any topic ever, and then also say such ridculous things. You discredit yourself with your illogic and dishonesty. You have chosen the side of pseudo-science. And so that is where you will stay.

Let's see what ACTUAL scientists have to say:

"Yan Ropert-Coudert, senior penguin scientist at Dumont D'Urville research station, adjacent to the colony, said the region was impacted by environmental changes linked to the breakup of the Mertz glacier."

Mertz glacier, eh? Wonder why it broke up?

Let's ask an ACTUAL scientist:

For decades the tongue of the Mertz Glacier in the eastern part of the continent has grown further out into the water until it was about 60 miles long by 18 miles wide, said Benoit Legresy, a researcher with the LEGOS laboratory for geophysical studies in Toulouse, France.

Then an iceberg called B9B, which had broken off from another part of Antarctica in 1987, came by and "gave it a pretty big nudge," said Australian Antarctic Division glaciologist Neal Young.

"It was a slow process," Legresy said. He said B9B was "sitting there, it must have been pushed and pulled by the current every day and used as a hammer to bang on the other one by the ocean currents."

Hmm, by a process completely independent of anthropogenic climate changes.

Falsifying data is what discredits people and the globull warming "scientists" have been caught more than once doing it

Not even a 2 decade pause makes them wrong

Anthropogenic "causes" that exist only in computer models. Whenever they are exposed to scrutiny, the actual REAL facts become known and the global warming narrative bites the big one. Thanks for pointing that fact out.

Some don't but wish they did.

Japan mourns anime-loving penguin

A celebrity penguin, which made international headlines after forming an attachment to a cardboard cut-out in a Japanese zoo, has died at the age of 21.

Tobu Zoo in Japan's central Saitama prefecture announced Grape's death through its Twitter account, saying that the cause of death was unknown. But according to NewsWalker, he would have been around 80-years-old in "human years".

Grape the Humboldt penguin became on online star in May after seemingly falling in love with the picture of Hululu, an anthropomorphic penguin character from the Japanese anime series Kemono Friends, after it was placed in his enclosure, the RocketNews website reports.

He is thought to have become fixated on the cut-out after being jilted by a female penguin called Midori, which had been his mate for a decade.

We're seeing this with other species as well. The changes in climate are wreaking havoc on wildlife. I suspect westwall was being sarcastic when he said this -

but its true. And as we all know, its never just one species that is affected.

As I understand it, the ice continues to appear thick and solid but its actually being melted from below.

In mathematical terms the AGW cultists claim to know and be able to measure to an infinite number of decimal places all atmospheric data going back to the big bang because without all of that data, independently verifiable data, they are just blowing out their ass because climatic change more or less defines a chaotical deterministic but unpredictable system.

Wait !!! Hold the presses --- naturally growing glaciers in Antarctica. And at SOME point, they grow so far out to sea that they "break off". They need a footing. And as they grow farther out, that footing is DEEPER and ice floats. You need a picture or some static loading diagrams?

So what's this got to do with the penguins? Or anthropomorphic causes? How does this contradict the OP?

If it were true that the sea ice were being melted from below it wouldn't be "abnormally thick" nor would it hinder the penguins. Best check your "facts" again.

Actually Willie is real close. Haven't you ever seen proxy temperature studies for the past 2000 or 10,000 years? From less than 100 locations, they claim to determine the ENTIRE mean temperature of the globe to less than a degree --- 10,000 years ago. Or that's the way the results are represented to the public and policy makers. Could be close to the MEAN -- but it sure as hell doesn't show 100 year variations like our "little bump".
