Awesome, your eight year old knows the specifics of homosexuality. That's some awesome parenting there. And our children will continue to be taught that there isn't anything wrong with being gay.
Someone at school called my daughter gay and she said that was wrong. Men are gay, women are lesbians. And even if she was a lesbian, so what? She was eight. I was very proud of her.
No, my 8 year old didn't know the "specifics of homosexuality". She knew that gay men dated other men, and lesbians dated other women. My daughter's figure skating coach was a gay man. One of her Girl Guide leaders was a lesbian high school teacher. And she had a self-appointed "Fairy Godmother" from the day she was born: a 6'3" drag queen named Tessy.
My daughter grew up in downtown Toronto. We lived on a quiet middle class street, with a great diversity of friends and neighbours. My daughter was taught tolerance and understanding, among other Christian values.
My daughter is now 25 and about to become a mother for the first time. One thing I am confident of, is that my grand daughter will be raised to believe that who you love is less important than how you love.
