Easter is next weekend. Cute bunnies come out on Easter, let's call them "hare's" for now.
Oh, and it's opening day for trout fishing next weekend in my neck of the woods. I think my kids were about 5 the first time they saw me gut a fish, about 7 or 8 the first time they helped. I'm pretty sure it didn't traumatize them.

TM is being her normal ridiculous self, but I think with her original reply and Liability's post make a good point. Depending on your relationship with the neighbors, I don't think it's your place to decide what kind of life-lessons to give the children. Not that there's any need for you to hide what you were doing, but you seemingly took it beyond answering the simple question and intentionally went in-depth to teach them.

As to how I feel about kids that age learning where the meat comes from.....I suppose it would depend on the child, and how detailed the description would be. I don't think there is necessarily any harm done to a child who doesn't know where meat actually comes from.
