Welfare or people suffer. how about a job.
Some corporations have jobs and still get welfare. ADM is a good example. Never hear conservatives complain about that. They always seem focus their ire on the least among us. Must be a christian thing.
As before, statehood will never happen because it will NEVER get 2/3 of the state legislatures to sign off.
The only way to add DC is if we also split CA and NY each into 2 separate states as well, that gets us close to Obama's 57 states
Hmmmm and what should be done about this?

The fed gvt cheats louisiana out ot the proper oil royalties we deserve. We receive only a percentage of a percentage of the correct amount.
Louisiana contains just under 10 percent of all known U.S. oil reserves and is the country's third largest producer of petroleum. Its reserves of natural gas are even larger and it produces just over one-quarter of all U.S. supplies. Louisiana also has immense quantities of salt contained in huge underground formations, some of which are a mile across and up to 50,000 feet deep and produce almost 100 percent pure rock salt. The first sulphur mined in America came from Louisiana and the state is still a principal producer of the mineral.
Louisiana petroleum refineries produce enough gasoline annually (15 billion gallons) to fill up 800 million automobile gas tanks, making the state the third leading refiner. The state's 16 refineries include one of the four largest in the Western Hemisphere and among the companies with Louisiana production facilities are Exxon, Shell, Citgo. Mobil, Marathon, Conoco, BP and STAR. In addition to producing gasoline, Louisiana refineries also produce jet fuels, lubricants and some 600 other petroleum products.
Let's see them do without us...shut down the port and the mouth of the river and sell our oil at market value.
Let them freeze in the dark.
If those 10 states withdrew and handled their own business they would be just fine without d.c.
In fact the nation needs them more than they need the nation.
This myth that states can't survive is comical.
Doesn't matter, though. We'll all be without d.c eventually.
To kiwiman127: Everything that is going wrong with this country is funded by the tax on income. The goal is to defund the parasite class; i.e., pay the federal government to run necessary government and nothing more. Repealing the XVI Amendment is the only way that can be accomplished. Discussing how to fix this or that aspect of the economy is a waste of time so long as income is taxed.
I've lived in DC for nearly 40 years. Surprisingly, I am a registered Republican.
During the time I have lived here, the local government, now an elected and mostly empowered government, has been and continues to be a corrupt laughingstock tinged with reverse racism.
If any jurisdiction in the US ever did not deserve representation or self government, it's DC.
And I cover up the motto on my license plate with a frame.
Ms. Norton, the District’s nonvoting congressional representative, released her prepared testimony Sunday, in which she points out that “there are no financial, economic, constitutional or historical reasons that the 650,000 Americans who live in the District of Columbia should not be granted statehood.”

D.C. resumes push for statehood - Washington Times
There is one very good reason Ms. Norton:
That's why, as a local DC area merchant, I consider myself a money launderer.
