Watch: Rand Paul Caught Red-Handed Lying about past Objections to Civil Rights Act | Occupy Democrats

Presidential hopeful and Tea Party darling Rand Paul has long held objections to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, shamefully arguing that private businesses that serve the general public should have the right to discriminate.

The landmark civil rights legislation outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, including in private businesses that serve the general public, such as restaurants and hotels.

When asked by the Louisville Courier-Journal in 2010 if he would have voted for the civil rights acts of 1964, Paul evasively replied, “I like the Civil Rights Act in the sense that it ended discrimination in all public domains, and I’m all in favor of that.”

“But?” the interviewer asked him, in response to which Paul chuckled as if questioning substantive provisions in the Civil Rights Act were a laughing matter.

“You had to ask me the ‘but.’ I don’t like the idea of telling private business owners — I abhor racism. I think it’s a bad business decision to exclude anybody from your restaurant — but, at the same time, I do believe in private ownership.”

The Courier-Journal reported in 2010 that Paul’s critique of the Civil Rights Act echoed “the views of his father [Rep. Ron Paul], who stood up on the House floor when it celebrated the 40th anniversary of the act in 2004 and denounced it as ‘a massive violation of the rights of private property and contract, which are the bedrocks of free society.’”

Paul took a similar position that year when asked by Rachel Maddow, who has been following Paul’s attempts to deny his history of statements objecting to sections of Civil Rights Act.

Paul recently told NBC that he is not longer concerned about any of the titles in the Civil Rights Act, and that he never said that he was.

This chronic liar is definitely running for prez.

Now, watch the RWs say they agree with him and/or make excuses for his reprehensible position and his lies.

Mt Maddow tried this on her show when Rand ran for Senate.

How'd that work out?

People are tired of the Race Card but by all means, please keep using it.

This, of course, goes to the comprehensive ignorance of, or contempt for, the Constitution and its case law exhibited by both Pauls, libertarians, and others on the right in general.

The public accommodations provisions of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 are authorized by the Commerce Clause, where they exist as necessary, proper, and Constitutional regulatory policy (Heart of Atlanta Motel, Inc. v. United States (1964)).

Public accommodations laws are perfectly appropriate in the context of other regulatory measures private business owners are required to follow, such as provisions requiring safe working conditions for employees, wage and compensation requirements, and consumer protection regulations. As is the case with these and other regulatory measures, public accommodations laws in no way 'violate' the private property rights of business owners.

Let me know when he rivals the Amateur-in-Chief, the current reigning "Liar of the Year".

I think Paul is disingenuous and a serial panderer...but an Obama supporter calling anyone out for lying is like a fish ridiculing someone for being wet.

Unfortunately 99.9% of those so called lies are just out of context horse shit. With so many real issues to deal with you have to wonder why these idiots have to make shit up all the time. It's too bad most of Obama's critics aren't a little smarter, they might have accomplished something by now.

one of my favorite lies that the republicans push is where is my 2500 dollars obama promised me in my health care ... these republicans supply a youtube video saying see he said he promised us 2500 dollars ... then you watch the video ... not once in the video did obama say he promises 2500 dollars ...Obama does say you can save up to 2500 dollars .... but he never said I promise you 2500 dollar saving like they want you to believe ...

Basically?

That wasn't a lie.

President Obama didn't see what was coming. In 2009, insurance companies cobbled together plans they knew wouldn't be up to muster once the full law took effect. It was a pretty crappy thing to do as well.

And in any case? President Obama apologized for this..

They know the limitations of their position. It’s debating stupid people that’s hard:lol::lol::lol:

You are blaming us for not reading it? YOU didn't even read it. Your own people didn't read it. The people who sponsored the bill, didn't even read the bill.

Remember? "We have to pass it, in order to find out what is in it"?

You crammed a bill down the American Public's throat, that YOUR OWN PEOPLE didn't read, didn't debate, didn't discuss, and you made endless claims that it was going to be good.

During that time, you had complete and total control of the government. Both houses, and the presidency. Now after we found out what a sham, what a scam, and what trash you passed when you had control, now the Republicans are standing up against this jackass party of ignorant fools, and you whine and cry we are "obstructionists". Well, heck yeah, we're obstructionists, because you country ruining socialists needs to be obstructed.

That's how this works. We have a say in how this country is run, and we elected people to congress to prevent you from screwing it up more than you already have.
