Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has made no secret of her opinion on Canadian public health care. But she's scheduled to speak at a fundraiser for a hospital and cancer center in Canada.

ThinkProgress points out that St. Peter's Hospital is public, performs abortions, and offers end-of-life decision support.

Organizers hope to sell 1,000 tickets at $200 a plate, but raise more via photos with Palin.

When approached recently by a Canadian comedian pretending to be a conservative, Palin gave her opinion on Canadian health care:

"Keep the faith" Palin said, "because common sense conservatism can be plugged in there in Canada too. In fact, Canada needs to reform its health care system and let the private sector take over some of what the government has absorbed."

So she is speaking at an event to raise money for a "cancer center" in one paragraph--

then in the next paragraph an organization called "ThinkProgress" who in the h.... are they--& knowing "liberals" whom always want to be referred to as "Progressive" states that this "cancer" center--also does "abortions"---:lol::lol: BTW--all cancer centers give end of life advice--because there are millions of people who die from cancer. BUT--Cancer centers do NOT do abortions--Da--Duh--Da--Duh--Da--Duh.

This thread & article is so "freakin" BOGUS--that you would have to have an IQ of under 70 to actually beliieve it---:lol::lol:

For you liberals on this board--Candians & the French have done a 180 degree turn to conservativism. You'll note that they have both elected "conservative" prime ministers over the last few years. In fact, the current prime minister of Canada is often referred to as Bush 3. So while the U.S. has moved mistakenly to the left--the countries liberals praise the most have moved dramatically to the right---:lol:

So....are you and Palin now admitting that "end of life counsleing" does not equate to "death panels"?

No one claimed they did. We pointed out that the research done BY the Obama team was that major savings UPWARDS of 70 percent could be had by cutting expensive treatments and medicines to Seniors and that they planned to pay doctors to convince seniors to just die quietly in hospices or homes. But reality seldom has anything to do with liberal lies and misinformation.

Some people who are going to die soon anyways, really need to start evaluating what they are going to be putting themselves through. This is something that is a reality and sometimes a waste of money and something the person does not need to go through. It isn't wanting them dead, it is realizing what will make their final days more comfortable.
And often the treatment can shorten their life.

Why are we making them do this? Is it so that we can keep the cost of medicine down or that some official can play life or death over someone's lives and since when did the national community get to decide what kind of end of life treatment someone should get? I've always thought that was between the patient, doctor, and God and not anyone else.

When you first said this I thought that you were joking. I hope you still are and are just pretending to be this sick to get a rise out of people but somehow I doubt this which is quite sad.

No. They still are going to be deathpanels if it is the government but a private person acting without the government will probably make more humane decisions over their own health since it is their health that they are making the decision over. A government end of life counciling will probably push some national plan to reduce cost when the treatment that person desires is deemed to expensive for the "community".

Did you notice how short and lacking in detail they kept the article. Its like newspeak when you use the least amount of words possible to describe a political idea so as to not permit the people to form complex thoughts about something.

Who cares? Doesn't raising money for the hospital serve the greater good?

Hint: This is the part where you nod that empty block on top of your shoulders vigorously and say, "Why yes, Gunny, it does."

You're dismissed.

Being a cancer survivor myself--I am very accustomed to knowledge of what occurs when someone is diagnosed with cancer. There's all kinds of counciling, including the worst of the worst situation--to the best of the best.

You libs are trying to project as to what type of counciling is common place in America's "cancer" centers by trained doctors & professionals--to the federal government via a dumb ass buerocrat giving themselves a license to do end of life sessions with family members.

My problem with all of this is--& maybe you can answer this: How does the federal government cut 500 BILLION dollars out of Medicare--with millions of baby boomers--(still the largest generation in this country) entering the Medicare system & will continue to do so for the next 15 years without rationing health care to the elderly? And this is where the debate is on "death panels." This is where Sarah Palin jumped into the fray.

I believe a 3rd grader would be able to figure that this is very "fuzzy" math.

WOW.....I have seen my share of deflections from you righties before, but I do believe this one takes the cake. YOU completely ignore my question. Then, you start with the moronic drivel of supposed beurocrats doing end of life counseling....by the way, did it hurt when you pulled THAT one out of your ass? And finally, you end up your spin with asking about a completely separate topic that has NOTHING to do with the discussion of Palin and her speaking engagement at this Candian hospital. Bravo, sir! Barvo, indeed!:clap2:

Leave Sarah alone. She can field dress a moose.

but would she?
Apparently she'll do anything for money. Even sell out her rightwing ideals

Where did it say she's being paid?

You folks ever think about holding your citicism until you've heard what she had to say? It's a fundraiser for a hospital in a country with a government health care system. Sounds to me like some interesting irony there that Sarah might address.

Thus far to me all it sounds like is the hospital needs to raise money and Palin has agreed to help them do so. Yeah, let's nail her to a cross for that one.

According to the Hamilton Spectator, Sarah Palin has been contracted to
speak at a fundraiser for the Juravinski Cancer Centre and St. Peter's
Hospital in Canada. "This is quite the coup," said Gabe Macaluso, an
organizer for the event.

Palin might be surprised to learn that the hospital she is fundraising for
runs counter to her professed beliefs:

- St. Peter's Hospital is a public hospital within the national
Canadian healthcare system. In Palin's worldview, universal,
government-insured health care is "socialism."

- St. Peter's Hospital performs abortions. Palin, a staunch
anti-choice zealot, has protested outside of abortion clinics and has
refused to denounce abortion clinic bombers as terrorists.

- St. Peter's Hospital, through its Centre for Studies in Aging,
offers "advanced directives." Palin tried to derail health reform
earlier this year by falsely labeling advanced directive reimbursements as
"death panels."

Last month, Canadian comedian Mary Walsh asked Palin if she had "any
words of encouragement for the Canadian conservatives who have worked so
hard to try to diminish that kind of socialized medicine we have up
there." Palin, clearly duped by the performance, responded that Canadians
should rid themselves of their public health care system and take a
privatized approach:

PALIN: Well, my answer was too keep the faith. My answer was to keep
the faith. Cause that common sense conservatism can be plugged-in there in
Canada too. In fact, Canada needs to reform its health care system and let
the private sector take over some of what the government has absorbed. So
thank you, keep the faith.

Watch it:

Will Palin chastise her socialized medicine hosts for having
government-insured health care?

In any case, the Spectator reports that Palin is being paid "around the
ballpark" of $200,000 for the speech, the going rate for a Palin
appearance. Organizers hope to sell 1,000 tickets at $200 a plate, but
raise more from selling photos with her.

In the modern age 'GOVERNMENT' has replaced the devil and witches as the source of all evils, why is that one wonders? Hopefully all the proceeds will go to the hospital so give her some credit for a positive act, but an irrelevant statement.

Palin doesn't do anything for free. Everything she does is for money and political advantage, which she hopes will bring her even more money.

Look at her flip flop on global warming. As governor of Alaska she supported environmental legislation that addressed the causes of global warming. Now that she has a book to sell, she has decided that pandering to the global warming deniers will boost her sales. Palin has found herself a niche audience and she'll tell them anything them want to hear,

Reports say Palin makes $200,000 a speech, and while Macaluso couldn’t say the exact amount, he said that’s “around the ballpark.”

No. They still are going to be deathpanels if it is the government but a private person acting without the government will probably make more humane decisions over their own health since it is their health that they are making the decision over. A government end of life counciling will probably push some national plan to reduce cost when the treatment that person desires is deemed to expensive for the "community".
So government should abandon elderly citizens and leave them in the clutches of private profit driven insurers who are going to "make more humane decisions" concerning their increasingly expensive client?

Palin has agreed to speak at a fundraising event in Hamilton on April 15, 2010 to raise money for St. Peter’s Hospital and the Juravinski Cancer Centre. Are both of these facilities part of Canada’s public health care system? Yes they are, we don’t have much choice here, there is one private hospital in all of Ontario, and even that is part of the public system. Does St. Peter’s or the JCC provide abortions? Not quite.

The JCC provides cancer care, which includes chemotherapy and other cutting edge treatments but not abortions. St. Peter’s is a mostly palliative care hospital focused on seniors and also does not provide abortions; most of the hospital’s clients are well past reproductive years.

Both St. Peter’s Hospital and the Juravinski Cancer Centre are partners with with McMaster University Medical Centre through Hamilton Health Services.
"MUMC delivers a wide range of Women's Health services, including high-risk obstetrics and gynecology, to patients from a broad region."
