One party system: What total Republican control of a state really means

The U.S. Constitution gives the states almost total control over how Americans live and vote. Republicans appear to have grasped the importance of this, but most Democrats have not. Since losing the White House and Congress in 2008, the GOP has focused time, money and talent on gaining control of state governments.

Their efforts have paid off. In the 2010 and 2014 midterm elections, older, white and upper-income voters, including many Tea Party supporters, turned out in force, while Democratic constituencies, including many young and minority voters, stayed home. The result is that Republicans control both the governor’s mansion and legislature in 24 states, 70 of the nation’s 99 state legislative chambers, both chambers in 30 states, plus Nebraska’s single chamber, and 31 governor’s mansions.

Republican control of states--what are the results? Many of these states wasted no time in adopting radical elements of the Republican agenda, such as:

Gerrymandering
Voter suppression
Loose gun regulation
Suppression of civil rights
Cut funding for public school education; eliminated teaching positions
Eliminated preschool
Cut funding for higher education
Banned use of climate-change science
Reduced unemployment benefits
NC repealed Racial Justice Act
Eliminate earned-income tax credit for poor
Imposed higher sales taxes that hit the poor the hardest
Extended tax breaks for wealthy
Tax cuts for wealthy
Budget deficits
Obstructed women's healthcare
Squashing unions and oppressing workers

The author wrote: "Unless this changes radically, what the Republicans have done in the past five years may be just a prelude to what’s ahead."

Is this the kind of country we really want?

Hows Californias bankruptcy going? Damn Republicans really screwed up that state huh?

The advantage of having a system run by one party is that the results of their efforts are on display for everyone to grade.
That explains the businesses fleeing California for Texas and New York bribing businesses with tax free status to move there. I mean why tax big business when you can just rape the peasants right? No? Wait.....

'Nearly 90 percent of the Republicans in the House of Representatives are on the far right of the conservative spectrum, described by Thomas Mann of the Brookings Institution as “a radical insurgency — ideologically extreme, contemptuous of the inherited policy regime [and] scornful of compromise.”'

In addition to being incapable of, and hostile to, sound, responsible governance.

“Meanwhile, North Carolina ended its earned-income tax credit, extended tax breaks for wealthy taxpayers and replaced its progressive income tax with a 5.75 percent flat tax. Low-income earners now pay at the same rate as multimillionaires.”

An example of republicans being incapable of, and hostile to, sound, responsible governance.

'The North Carolina GOP has also revised local election rules in some of the state’s few Democratic pockets in ways that could increase GOP power. One measure, for example, banned Greensboro from changing council districts without the permission of the state legislature. All other North Carolina cities and towns don’t need such permission. A federal court struck down the law, ruling it had “no rational basis.”''

At least republicans are consistent in their contempt for the Constitution and rule of law; indeed, much of what republicans advocate is devoid of a rational basis.

Higher sales tax? What kind of crap is that? Democratic controlled Cook county Illinois has the highest sales tax in the nation 10.25%

I pay 6%
Cook County has the same sales tax as Los Angeles County.

California is what a democrat state looks like and it isn't at all pretty.

San Francisco is a democrat run city and the pee on the lamp posts from the homeless is making them fall down.

Obama was the best thing to happen to the Republican party.

The Democrats have turned their back to rural people who believe in God.

another hyperpartisan/DNC operative trying to create fear and uncertainty...the desperation is almost palpable...they feel the wind changing.

Look at these wonderful cities!!

Detroit- once had the highest income per capita in the USA, now, a blighted wasteland where nearly a third of the buildings are abandoned.
Baltimore- over $4 billion in unfunded liabilities. Nothing to worry about!!!
Cleveland -more than 50% of the children in Cleveland live in poverty
Chicago - home to over 100,000 gang members. Over 500 murders per year.
East St Loius - murder rate is 17 x the national average
Oakland - has an average of 33 burglaries per day.
New Orleans- squandered the billions earmarked to improve the levies, blamed Bush when the Hurricane hit. Residents enjoy crawdads and the 2nd Highest murder rate in the world

All of these cities are financially insolvent. All of these cities have been under Democrat control for the last 40 years.
The record speaks for itself.

all of them black majority cities....

This was a recent comment on an article at Stuff Black People Don't Like - SBPDL

Western civilization, which blacks cannot create nor sustain when left to their own devices, has eroded away in Detroit.
yet we continue to ignore the genetic realities behind Detroit's demise.

Detroit in 2014 is a representation of black rule, secured by the 1967 black uprising (which drove whites far, far away) and 40 continuous years of black political control.

And though time travel is not possible, if those debating the merits of Jim Crow, segregation, the rationale behind restrictive covenants, and using IQ tests for employment years and years ago could, for the briefest of moments, peer into the future and see the world of 2014 83% black Detroit, they'd find the astonishing justification for every thing they held dear.

Gerrymandering dems do this as well
Voter suppression lie
Loose gun regulation you against Constitutional rights? quell surprise
Suppression of civil rights lie
Cut funding for public school education; eliminated teaching positions the bloated union monopoly on education has done a shitty job year in and year out, even when they got more money.
Eliminated preschool so?
Cut funding for higher education funding increased cost, anyone with an IQ knows this.
Banned use of climate-change science this sounds like bs
Reduced unemployment benefits after they were increased to a ignorant level
NC repealed Racial Justice Act dafuck is that?
Eliminate earned-income tax credit for poor getting more than all you taxes back is what that created
Imposed higher sales taxes that hit the poor the hardest bullshit, obama did that
Extended tax breaks for wealthy you mean the people paying more taxes than you?
Tax cuts for wealthy creates jobs, shocking to learn that
Budget deficits uhm, most have the best economies in the nation
Obstructed women's healthcare lie
Squashing unions and oppressing workers utter bullshit

leftist never think for themselves, they hold no views that differ from msn told them to think.

If unions supported the GOP not a one of them would say a thing other than Unions are good. Not one speak out against them. Anti working class rhetoric this is. Unions bad, corporations good. Sounds like a lazy(most of them are) ceo talking about those who do the heavy lifting to make the company its profits...you know...those who make a lousy $15 per hour(which is basically zero) while the management sits back and smokes stogies.

You are full of shit hell I read like 70% of milenals hate Unions also and don't even try me I posted a thread about it on here a few months ago.

We all know how American Unions fuck over the American worker.

So do you hate the union heads or the union members? You know the people doing the actual work while the management sits back and relaxes and scoffs that some of the workers are earning the pathetic measely wage of like $15 per hour.
