"The Spokesperson for the People’s Protection Units (YPG), Sipan Hamo, stated on Tuesday that the Syrian government has allowed the Kurdish-led reinforcements through their lines recently.

Hamo continued that the Syrian government is providing both food and medical supplies to the Afrin region of Aleppo, adding that he hopes the latter will join the battle militarily."

※→ Bleipriester,, et al,

I think that most people are still compiling a score card. Who is on what side and why, is a confusing question. Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG)[including YPJ (the Female Brigade,)] And the relationship between the Peshmerga and the YPJ is something yet to flower.

Where are all the USMB posters siding with the Kurds? Not in this thread.

"BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:20 P.M.) – The Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) struck back against the Turkish-backed rebels in the northern countryside of the Afrin region, today, scoring a new advance after a short battle.

According to pro-YPG media, their forces managed to retake the town of Hajj Bilal after overrunning the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) in northern Afrin.

Meanwhile, at the Rajou District, the YPG has not only beaten back the Turkish-backed rebels, but also, recaptured several areas that were taken by the later over the weekend.

In addition to their counter-attack in Rajou, the YPG forces also recaptured some areas around the Bulbul District after a short battle with the Turkish-backed rebels."

The real question revolves around the interpretation of the "Right to Self-Determination" and why Turkey, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Azerbaijan and Armenia — have not yet resolved the question of the Kurdish State.

Treaty of Sevres said:
SECTION III.
KURDISTAN.

ARTICLE 62.

A Commission sitting at Constantinople and composed of three members appointed by the British, French and Italian Governments respectively shall draft within six months from the coming into force of the present Treaty a scheme of local autonomy for the predominantly Kurdish areas lying east of the Euphrates, south of the southern boundary of Armenia as it may be hereafter determined, and north of the frontier of Turkey with Syria and Mesopotamia, as defined in Article 27, II (2) and (3). If unanimity cannot be secured on any question, it will be referred by the members of the Commission to their respective Governments. The scheme shall contain full safeguards for the protection of the Assyro-Chaldeans and other racial or religious minorities within these areas, and with this object a Commission composed of British, French, Italian, Persian and Kurdish representatives shall visit the spot to examine and decide what rectifications, if any, should be made in the Turkish frontier where, under the provisions of the present Treaty, that frontier coincides with that of Persia.

ARTICLE 63.

The Turkish Government hereby agrees to accept and execute the decisions of both the Commissions mentioned in Article 62 within three months from their communication to the said Government.

ARTICLE 64.

If within one year from the coming into force of the present Treaty the Kurdish peoples within the areas defined in Article 62 shall address themselves to the Council of the League of Nations in such a manner as to show that a majority of the population of these areas desires independence from Turkey, and if the Council then considers that these peoples are capable of such independence and recommends that it should be granted to them, Turkey hereby agrees to execute such a recommendation, and to renounce all rights and title over these areas.

The detailed provisions for such renunciation will form the subject of a separate agreement between the Principal Allied Powers and Turkey.

If and when such renunciation takes place, no objection will be raised by the Principal Allied Powers to the voluntary adhesion to such an independent Kurdish State of the Kurds inhabiting that part of Kurdistan which has hitherto been included in the Mosul vilayet.

In 1920, after the Armistice of Mudros there was the Treaty of Sevres. It stipulated a "local autonomous" Kurdistan. But the treaty was not ratified and in 1924, the Treaty of Lausanne became the operative Treaty. It did not make the same obligations as Section III - Kurdistan, Treaty of Sevres. The Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) was targeted by the Turkish Republic and subject to Turkish Air Strikes; even while they PKK was battling DAESH. This created confusion as to who was fighting whom and why.

Most Respectfully,

It is not all that confusing. Russia is in bed with Turkey, the US doesn´t give a damn and Syria can only support the Kurds indirectly to not to make the Russians angry. YPG and Peshmerga will never be friends and they support each other only in critical situations. YPG is socialist and Peshmerga are nationalist.

When several parties lay claim to a land, then there must be a compromise in the end. Bad for the Kurds is that most of the one insisting on a Kurdish country are not as eager to see a Palestinian country. In the result the pro-Kurdish stance is just anti-Syrian agenda and thus invalid.

The Erdogan forces captured seven towns today. But the terrain benefits the Kurds now. Meanwhile, Deir Ezzor becomes ISIS territory again as Kurds move to Afrin. It can be doubted that the YPG strength is even somewhere near the official claims (50.000). Remaining is the Deir Ezzor Military Council that comprises of al-Qaeda and ISIS terrorists that are now directly controlled by the CIA. It´s the new anti-government force, an ISIS with official air support by the ISIS-Coalition.

"BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian Kurdish forces and the Damascus government have reached an agreement for the Syrian army to enter the Afrin region to help repel a Turkish offensive, a senior Kurdish official told Reuters on Sunday.

Badran Jia Kurd, an adviser to the Kurdish-led administration in north Syria, said army troops will deploy along some border positions and could enter the region within the next two days."

The Kurds accuse Russia of torpedoing an agreement with Damascus but it was also the YPG itself that repeatedly denied an agreement.

Russia as turned from an ally to an annoyance. The Syrian army had to do the entire job against ISIS while hostile countries´ mercs have strolled into new lands to capture with ease while Damascus comes away largely with desert sand. Now, Syria can´t liberate the formally ISIS-held areas because of this or that Russian spastic reason, although there is no lack of military power. Russia´s hands are in the middle east while its eyes peer west. Not good for hand-eye coordination.
