Oh dear... plans for the GOP fear machine leaked

I gave you the example of "Morning in America" but you are hunkering down with a bunker mentality. I can't see how that is supposed to motivate people without having an invading army at our border.
Absolutely. I'll see if i can break down a little more for you.

One one side, you've got Obama and his congress, pushing unpopular legislation. Not just health care but also cap and trade and just deficit spending in general.

On the other, you've got the republicans, who pretty much are going to tell you nothing other than that they oppose Obama and his congress.

If you're scared of or just plain don't want higher taxes and more pervasive government via these policies, then who are you going to go out and vote for? The GOP is banking on more people being scared of or not wanting this legislation, and it's a pretty smart bet considering the polls right now. Because of this, they're going to do everything they can to keep that sentiment alive until November so scared or angry people will come out and try to stop the democrats... via voting the republicans back in.

I don't like it any more than you do and i'd like to feel a lot more confident in my impending republican votes, but i'll fully admit that i'd rather take the republicans and their mis-management than the democrats' mis-management because it's likely to try to get more control over my life.

So, in your estimation, selling fear is a great tactic because it will garner power for those doing the fear mongering. In your estimation, the American people will rally around their fears rather than their hopes.
That's what the GOP is banking on, and considering how unpopular the policies being pushed by congress and the white house, then why not? I've already laid out the benefits of such a plan. Your argument basically boils down to "i don't like the GOP and their tactics, so i won't vote for them." That's fine, go for it, but the GOP isn't looking to satisfy people like you who won't vote for them no matter what. If they were, then they'd all jump in the Obamacare pool.

Quite simply, the GOP is positioning themselves as far away from Obama and the democratic controlled congress as possible, and it's a smart move considering how the majority of people (once again, according to polls) oppose Obama, the democratic congress and their proposed policies.

So if it makes you feel better, you can snuggle with your morality in December after the GOP cleans up in November.

Well if the Republicans gain back power, my question is what will they DO, now how well they played the game, which seems to be all you're interested in. Republicans always use these tactics, they win (over) the public, get back in power, then fuck everything up again. Then the Dems come in, try to clean it up "for the people" get publicly smacked down by Republicans who own the media, then the win (over) the public...again.

And round and round it goes...

Everyone needs to look at the source of this story. Brett Michael Dykes.

The same guy that thinks Glenn Beck is attacking Obama to sell Gold.

The same guy that thinks the movie Avatar contains hidden messages.

The same guy that fact-checked a SNL skit.

If you can believe that RNC members left behind a memo in their hotel room that spills the beans on everything they have planned and also makes fun of major RNC donors.....then I've got some swampland in Arizona to sell yah.

It's not all i'm interested in. It's all i'm talking about in this thread because, holy shit, it's what the thread topic is about; the GOP using scare tactics to win an election.

I hope you're being sarcastic with the notion that Democrats try to come in and clean up republican messes. Both parties leave messes for each other. If Obamacare gets passed, then that's a gigantic mess for the republicans to try to clean up.

But yea, you're getting it. You may ask what the republicans are going to do when they get back in power, but their strategy isn't built around that. If that's reason enough for you to put your vote elsewhere, then so be it. The GOP is banking on more people thinking to themselves "i've got to help stop this crap in Washington" than people thinking "how is the GOP going to stop this crap and fix it?"

It's cheap and devoid of actual ideas, facts and plans. The only argument i'm making is that it's going to be effective.

That playbook calls for selling fear rather than solutions, division rather than unity, suspicion rather than leadership.
Right, which is why it's a smart move for republicans.

But is it a smart move for America? I don't think so. Fearful people usually come with violence. But hey! Screw America as long as it's good for the GOP. Party before Country!! :doubt:

Reminds me of some sort of Health Care Bill the Dem party is trying to pass when the majority of people don't want it.. but hey! Pass it anyways! Party Before Country! ...Right? :eusa_eh:

b b b bu bu bu but but but Obama said: "THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE IF WE DON'T PASS HEALTHCARE!!!!!"

"The best path to victory in 2010, the document advises, is for Republican candidates to depict themselves as the best hope for resisting the "trending toward socialism" taking shape in a Democrat-dominated Washington."

LOL

Statists hate it when people fight back

As far as the planned tactics go, I see no surprise at all and it's not like it hasn't been done before by both sides.

2006 was largely about Shrub and if I remember correctly, 1994 was a lot about Clinton, too. The President is still on a large amount of ballots in a midterm election.

As far as insulting the people they want to influence, I also wouldn't be surprised to find Dems thinking the same way towards certain constituents.

Still, it's fun to see this happening to the GOP and watching them run for cover.

:D

Here's another story on it, btw:

The 72-page PowerPoint presentation reveals the blunt appeal to emotion that both parties use to motivate donors and prefer to keep private. But its release online and consequent cable chatter became an unwelcome distraction for Republicans, because the strategy it outlined fit squarely with Democrats' portrait of the GOP as the party of "no."

Yup.

You mean a political party is planning on how they're going to win an election? Wow. I'm floored. :\

In other words; this is no worse than portraying yourself as post-racial, post-partisan, transparent centrist when you clearly are not in order to win a presidential election.
There's not a sign of any constructive plan in the memo. Their only strategy is to tear down the Democratic Party.
Does there need to be? The democratic machine currently running things in Washington is pretty unpopular with a majority of people according to numerous polls. Why wouldn't the GOP oppose the unpopular policies?

It's quite brilliant actually. The more the democrats keep pursuing unpopular policies, the more the republicans can just sit back, say we don't agree and not really have to do anything to win an election. That way, they won't have many campaign promises to live up to once they get back in power. Best of all, they won't have to worry about people remembering how they weren't doing a very good job either when they were in power.

This is basically how Obama won, you know. People were dis-pleased with Bush, so all Obama had to do it distance himself as far as he could from Bush and he got an easy victory. The tables have turned, once again, and it won't be the last time.
You appear to agree the GOP has nothing positive to offer. The party of NO.

Except the very people Republicans call "our Republican leaders" are mocking their base. Making fun of both the regular base and the high-rollers. Check out page 29. Instead of ideas or initiatives to fire up the base, they use such phrases as "fear" and "reactionary" and "extreme negative feelings".

For they high rollers they talk about "walk of fame" and "ego driven" and "peer pressure".

In 72 pages, not a single idea to help the country. Why? Because Republicans don't have any.

Except no one in the GOP denied the validity of the presentation. Stepping away is not the same as "denial", it's running away, or "trying to hide".

I'm just grateful the GOP took a break from campaigning. It would be great if Obama could do likewise and try to focus on getting us out of the mess.

Right on California Girl:clap2::clap2::clap2: Obama forgot to stop campaigning & actual run the country. He can't get enough of hearing himself talk.:blahblah: I for one am tired of his usless lies & retoric.:blahblah: He needs to:anj_stfu:shut the fuck up & fix this train wreck he has caused before more riots break out.

Personally, as a conservative.........Im thrilled. Over the last 20 years, I have seen the left use epic levels of scare tactics to influence voters. I always got pissed off that people on the right displayed a consistently gay approach in the political hardball arena.

Its about time................:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:

Riots and revolution are coming in the nation. Somebody needs to step up and tell people the bad news. Its stop the spending or the wheels come off..............

Nah. We can let Barack do that.
