Obama’s Favorite Author Is Suspended for Plagiarizing

Author of The Post-American World is caught plagiarizing.

Before the election Barack Obama carried around The Post-American World by Fareed Zakaria. A book that Amazon.com portrays as:

“…describing a world in which the United States will no longer dominate the global economy, orchestrate geopolitics, or overwhelm cultures.”

Today Fareed Zakaria was suspended for plagiarizing.
The AP reported:

Time editor-at-large and CNN host Fareed Zakaria has been suspended by both the magazine and the network for lifting several paragraphs by another writer for his use in a recent Time column.

Zakaria apologized Friday, declaring in a statement he made “a terrible mistake,” adding, “It is a serious lapse and one that is entirely my fault.”

In a separate statement, Time spokesman Ali Zelenko said the magazine accepts Zakaria’s apology, but would suspend his column for one month, “pending further review.”

“What he did violates our own standards for our columnists, which is that their work must not only be factual but original; their views must not only be their own but their words as well,” Zelenko said.

Shortly afterward, CNN said it had removed from the network’s website a blog post that “included similar unattributed excerpts,” and taken Zakaria off the air indefinitely.

“CNN has suspended Fareed Zakaria while this matter is under review,” said CNN spokeswoman Jennifer Dargan. She said Zakaria’s Sunday foreign-affairs program, “GPS,” will have its time slots filled in the interim by “Your Money with Ali Veshi” and “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.”

...aaaaaaannnd Mitt's favourite book was written by the founder of Scientology.
So Mitt's an equal opportunity cultist as well as favouring a book by a fugitive from extradition to France for fraud and customs violations - as well as being an out-and-out quack.

You're right, this is fun.

Well, according to your link...."What books did Romney claim as his favorites? The Bible is his favorite book. His favorite novel is Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard, the science-fiction writer and Scientology founder. "

..isn't it now...:woohoo:

Just wondering though.. whats your opinion on this, "Post-American World" reading selection by Obama?

I assume that you mean as an insight into Obama's character?

Well, having just read the synopsis on Wikipedia, it looks really interesting.
It reflects on how we got to the current world order including analysing what led to the US's dominance.
It focusses on how the India and China systems, different from each other and the US, have brought them to where they are.
It's got to be a good thing that the President understands how we got here, takes lessons from the past and from other systems and is reflecting on the future - accepting that the world is always changing.

The Bible was a pretty predictable choice by a right-wing political hopeful.

The shivy is that Bill Ayers recommended that book to Obama, I'm finding that difficult to absolutely prove though...:dunno:

..and yup, history is important and there's plenty of sources for it..still seems like an odd source to me though.
