Obama Wants To Meet With GOP On Health Care

The last meeting on CSPAN was a positive for Obama. At least after all this time he's finally talking to Republicans.

Problem is during his inauguration speech he promised to end the petty squabbles and begin working with the loyal opposition. Does he honestly think that showing up and appearing to ask them questions after over a year of shutting them out of the process is going make him look like he's really interested in what they have to say and willing to change some of his policies on health care?

So this one meeting erases all of the arrogance of the past year on his part and the Democrats. He wants to show the GOP as the party of no. This is his chance. This is his way of making them look like they aren't willing to work with him, not vice-verse.

Is anyone buying this?

Are you on drugs?

Have you been drunk for a year?

Have you been off the planet?

Republicans began obstructing Obama's agenda before he was sworn-in.

Frankly, I disappointed in Obama. He seems a fool for thinking Republicans will do anything but continue their obstruction.

Dunce! How could Republicans obstruct anything?? The Dems have a majority in the House and a supermajority in the Senate. Or did you not notice that?

But I thought the GOP was blocking health care reform. Why would Obama want to work with people who have been blocking his agenda??

Anyway, back on planet Earth: This is the usual gesture Obama makes when he's done something wrong and been caught at it.
When he started getting slammed for spending more than every American president since George Washington, combined, he suddenly became the voice of fiscal discipline. Now he is Mr Bipartisan. None of it is true. All of it is a fake.
The GOP needs to stand firm and discard anything that looks like buying in to Obama's Big Government vision of health care. If they fall for this, they really are suckers.

GOP needs to show now that they are not just giving lip service. Now that they have a "super majority" of 41% they will be looked at to deliver a workable, afordable solution like the said they would.

Tort reform and interstate competition are not the total solution. Put them in and get us healthcare
and get rid of all the garbage and pork in the bills. Get rid of the compulsive areas.

When Obama met with the GOP and took questions he proved in the days which followed that it was nothing more than a TV spot for public perception and that it had little to do with changing DC politics or reaching out for true bipartisanship.

This healthcare meeting offer from him most likely will be no different.

Simply meeting is meaningless unless he and his party is willing to really be flexible and so far there is nothing to indicate that they are.

All show, no substance!

Mike

Try again, Dumbass.

Read-up on Republican delaying tactics:

Senate Republicans circulated a memo today advising colleagues how to use Senate procedure to slow down debate on healthcare reform .

Written by Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) the memo explains that Republicans can regularly object to procedural motions and demand roll call votes on motions that are normally passed by "unanimous consent."

Republican memo outlines healthcare delay tactics

Dumbshit, a majority is a majority. A supermajoarity is a supermajority. Dems have had both. They do not need even one GOP vote to pass their agenda.
The issue is with Dems, not the GOP. Quit lying.

He just might be painting himself into a corner. He's holding this meeting egotistically assuming that the Republicans are the party of "NO" he drinks the kool aid right along with the rest of the lefties. I love the way the lunatic left ppooooo poooo the idea of tort reform "hell son, it'll only save 54 billion" well "hell gurl,, how many people can we take care of for 54 billion?"

I think Barack is banging his head against a wall on this one. A little too much, too late. Forget about Republicans, Democrats, conservatives or liberals. The general public have spoken with 80+% pretty happy with their current healthcare. They don't want an overhaul of healthcare by a growing government. Hell, healthcare isn't even one of the top concerns of the American people! It's the economy and JOBS! It's not that Barack doesn't get it ... oh he does ... he just doesn't want to get it. He wants control. Period.

The Republicans might be the only people willing to take a meeting with Obama. The world has figured out he is all talk and no results. By this time next month only the Democratic leadership will talk with him.

Republicans need to present a health care bill of rights:

Government shall not interfere with private citizens health care decisions.
Government shall not tax any citizen to pay for another's health care.

GOP needs to step to the plate on healthcare

They said they were serious, now its time to show it.

If you're so stupid that you dont know what our plan for health care is now despite repeating it for several years, this one meeting isnt going to help one thing.

I think the President needs to start being bipartisan and stop trying to shove his agenda up the rears of Americans. After all, it's the opposition of government health care that is real.

Here's a crazy idea. Get a job.

If the republicans were so ON THIS healthcare issue why did they do nothing about it as it grew and grew into a bigger mess right under their eyes?

This is an issue they have fought any fix to for decades.

Where were they when they controled EVERYTHING!

They were expanding coverage for prescription drugs while ignoring their base.

They also realize, this isnt the huge issue that you seem to think it is.

This proposed meeting with some Republicans has nothing to do with health care/insurance legislation; Obama is simply looking for another opportunity to appear on tv looking presidential while talking down to Republicans. Congressional Dems, both moderate and liberal, have complained that he has failed as a political leader and he has proved his support for Dem candidates to be ineffective in recent elections, so in order to try to prevent Dem candidates from distancing themselves from him and refusing to appear in public with him in this year's election campaign and in order to discourage the Dem Party from dismissing him as a potential nominee in 2012, Obama is seeking to showcase his talents as a campaigner with another tv show in which he berates Republicans.

Had Obama, Pelosi, et. al., really wanted health care/insurance reform, they would have had it by now. Had they been willing to compromise with moderate Dems and Republicans on issues such as caps on non economic damages, selling insurance across state lines, high risk pools with sliding scale subsidies instead of an individual mandate, etc., the more popular parts of their legislation, such as subsidies for the poor and the Exchanges, would have been included and all the stated goals of health care/insurance reform would have been achieved.

But such a bill would have borne a Republican imprint as much as a Dem imprint, and could have been claimed by both parties in political campaigns, so Obama-Pelosi clearly preferred to have no health care reform at all than to give up health care reform as a campaign issue.

Apparently taking money away from people without their permission, IS his job. Distributor of wealth.

you mean he wants to talk to the few RHINO that might be able to be bribed into helping him pass this horrible bill that the people are against and do not want!!! Hey Barry the Boob the people DO NOT WANT THIS HEALTH CARE BILL!!!!

Yup, the Prez enjoyed eating the GOP's lunch so much in Baltimore he decided he'd like a little more.

And what's really cool is that if the Repubs say no to this, they'll look even worse.

:D

He was caugfht lying during the Q&A. If that counts as "eating one's lunch" then I must have been misinformed.
Obama already is known as the most partisan politician in Washington, who has poisoned the atmosphere by shutting out the GOP. If he doesn't bend over backwards he looks like the liar he is.
The GOP will destroy themselves by compromising on basic principles. Their only reason for being with voters is principled opposition to the crap the Dems are trying to dump on this country. Becoming complicit with Team Obama in the enslavement of America will guarantee them a trip to obscurity.

Well, damn I guess the GOoPers oughtta take him up on his offer, then, huh? After all, it could only help, right?

But wait...

Republicans may opt out of Obama's health-care summit

Guess they don't feel so confident, huh?

What you call "bending over backwards" others (me, for example) would call giving the opposition more rope to hang themselves with.

Which is why they even rejected things they once supported when in power, right? Which is why so many of them - especially in the Senate - were beating the fear drums on Medicare, right?

Principled... <snort>
