Obama: The Future Must Not Belong to Those Who Slander The Prophet of Islam

Why didn't he say something more reasonable, like the future must not belong to those who murder innocent people for no good reason?

Obama: “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam” « Hot Air

Interesting quote; who made that quote up?
No idea but the nutters are repeating it everywhere.

I'd say they are exhibiting butthurt.

He said it but he said it in conjuction with the future must not belong to all sorts of people and ideologies. In other words, freedom of speech is only freedom of speech and NO ONE including those who slander other religions (in this case Islam) should hold the future.

Reasonable, thinking and fair human beings know what he meant but as usual, republican lemmings can't figure it out or want to make it seem like that is the only thing he said.

I can't figure out why Obama said this. Doesn't he realize that simply saying "Mohammad is a false prophet" is considered a slander?
Is Mitt Romney's Joseph Smith a "true prophet?"

As opposed to someone else's Joseph Smith?

And yes, Joseph Smith Jr was a Prophet of God.

That's completely irrelevant to the fact that merely voicing a belief that Mohammad is not a prophet is considered slander. It has been for over 1000 years.

Read about the Martyrs of Cordoba sometime. These Christians were put to death for preaching the Gospel and "slandering" the prophet by saying he wasn't one. Is that really the future we want for our lives, our culture, or our nation?

People should be free to speak their minds. Sometimes that means allowing crappy thoughts to be spoken.

Voicing that belief is one thing as Obama says (freedom of speech) but the future must not belong to anyone, including those who slander Islam.

The video was over the top and some things in it were considered slanderous and very distasteful by many and of course, Muslims thought it was blasphemy.

The filmmaker could have gotten his point across without some of what was depicted. And I don't know a lot about Islam (but I do know far too many believe that jihad is what Islam talks about) but I've heard some people say that the rape depicted did not take place. Even if it did, it didn't need to be depicted.

But, the filmmaker had a freedom of speech protection as Obama said but that didn't mean it wasn't slanderous in a lot of people's eyes.

On September 15, 2012, federal authorities took Nakoula in for an interview about possible probation violations related to the film's distribution on the Internet. On September 27, 2012, U.S. federal authorities arrested Nakoula in Los Angeles charging eight counts of probation violation. Prosecutors stated that some of the violations included making false statements regarding his role in the film and his use of the alias "Sam Bacile." None of the charges relate to his use of the Internet. Following a hearing before a judge, Nakoula was ordered to jail without bail on September 27, 2012, with the judge citing probation violations including lying to probation officials, "danger to the community", and "lack of trust in the defendant". He faces up to three years in prison.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakoula_Basseley_Nakoula
Nakoula Basseley Nakoula's conditions for parole after being convicted of bank fraud was that he not use an alias or access the internet without his probation officer's permission. Although Nakoula ignored both, he has been charged with making false statemenst and using an alias (Sam Bacile) - but not his use of the internet

This was the 2nd time that Nakoula's has been arrested for parole violation. After an earlier conviction of trying to set up a meth lab, he was rearrested while on probation in 2002 and served an additional year in prison for his refusal to comply with the conditions at that time.

The Future does not belong to this president! Did he even know what he said?

It's so much fun when things are taken out of context, don't you think?

PRESIDENT OBAMA addresses the U.N. General Assembly:

The future must not belong to those who target Coptic Christians in Egypt – it must be claimed by those in Tahrir Square who chanted “Muslims, Christians, we are one.” The future must not belong to those who bully women – it must be shaped by girls who go to school, and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons. The future must not belong to those corrupt few who steal a country’s resources – it must be won by the students and entrepreneurs; workers and business owners who seek a broader prosperity for all people. Those are the men and women that America stands with; theirs is the vision we will support.

The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. Yet to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see when the image of Jesus Christ is desecrated, churches are destroyed, or the Holocaust is denied.

Oh....he was taking "autistic" license with the quote.....kind of like "you didn't build that". It's what they do.

He said it along with a lot of other "the future must not" and that is quite different from only saying that one sentence. He is boltering all religions and freedom of speech and saying the future must not belong to those who commit slander against any religion (in other words freedom of speech but not freedom to kill and maim becasue of those beliefs). He is saying the future must not belong to all these people/ideologies and more.

From the speech transcript (LINK)

He has lumped them all together so in context it doesn't sound like he is supporting only Islam.

It is time to leave the call of violence and the politics of division behind. On so many issues, we face a choice between the promise of the future or the prisons of the past, and we cannot afford to get it wrong. We must seize this moment, and America stands ready to work with all who are willing to embrace a better future.

[and]

The future must not belong to those who target Coptic Christians in Egypt. It must be claimed by those in Tahrir Square who chanted, "Muslims, Christians, we are one." The future must not belong to those who bully women. It must be shaped by girls who go to school and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons.

(APPLAUSE)

The future must not belong to those corrupt few who steal a country's resources. It must be won by the students and entrepreneurs, the workers and business owners who seek a broader prosperity for all people. Those are the women and men that America stands with. There's is the vision we will support.

[and]

The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied.

(APPLAUSE)

Let us condemn incitement against Sufi Muslims and Shia pilgrims. It's time to heed the words of Gandhi, "Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit."

(APPLAUSE)

Together, we must work towards a work where we are strengthened by our differences, and not defined by them. That is what America embodies. That's the vision we will support. Among Israelis and Palestinians, the future must not belong to those who turn their backs on the prospect of peace. Let us leave behind those who thrive on conflict, those who reject the right of Israel to exist.

It certainly bolsters Christianity, Judaism and Islam. It does not, however, IN ANY WAY bolster free speech. In fact, in several places it actually implies that speech that offends these religions is wrong.

That's the problem here. Not that he's endorsing Islam. It's the fact that he places a religious person's "right" to not be offended higher than he places the right to free speech. The particular religion to which he refers is incidental. No matter how you dress up the context, this much is undeniable: it illustrated that free speech is second to "religious tolerance".

Ah!~ but the haters just gotta hate, do they not?

Meanwhile the saner elements of our various societies must find a way to live in peace.

"Those who slander the prophet of Islam" haven't killed anyone. Those who follow the prophet of Islam are the killers.

The Islamist will have to learn to tolerate "slander" if we are ever going to have peace. Those who think we should toss out the First Amendment to appease vicious savages are not the "saner elements."

Who cares what the muzzie savages thought? Why should we run our society based on what a bunch of barbarians think?

Read about the Mountain Meadows Massacre Some time... These Christians were put to death because one of them joked about shooting Joseph Smith in IL.

Oh, but that was a "misunderstanding". The Mormons really are nice people. Really.

How is pointing out that this ASSHOLE who made a film that was so offensive he had to lie to the actors who were in it about what they were making was a jerk really a bad thing?

Our problems with "Islam" is that we keep sticking our dicks in a hornet's nest and wondering why we get stung. Period.

If he had just said, bigots and ,racists it would have been good, but instead back to the usual pandering.

This guy sucks as a leader.
