In order to prove that extending UE causes UE:

1. You have to show that a period of unemployment where UE extension was passed was LONGER than a comparable period of UE where UE extension was not passed,

and you then have to

2. show that the UE extension itself, and no other extraneous factors of any kind,

CAUSED the relatively longer period of unemployment, in order to prove that the comparisons were comparable.

That would be proof of cause and effect. Your link did nothing of the sort.

And of ccourse you can't prove causality so none of it is provable. In your small mind anyway.

Although every state might be different in its job search requirements, there are indeed people who will try to game the system by lying about job searches in order to sit around and collect unemployment benefits, either on top of other earnings or they've figured out it's just as easy to collect and also game welfare programs while they're at it. There have and will always be such slobs. The problem is that they are the ones singled out for headlines, which makes it appear that everyone collecting is undeserving, when the vast majority are.

I've now been shocked twice watching two programs (old episodes of "True Life" on MTV) where the characters casually mentioned they were collecting unemployment, one while doing heavy gambling and nothing else, and the other was a shopaholic who, in addition to unemployment, was eligible for Medicaid which was covering her psychiatric care for the "disease" of addictive shopping.

I mean you can only watch so much of that crap, and you just want to SCREAM where is the oversight???!!!! One hopes those kinds of fraudulent situations are the exception, not the rule.

But what I do know is that in both cases, the government will have to BORROW MONEY to pay for BOTH plans.

And one plan, the Republican, will cost some amount.

And the other plan, the Democratic, will cost some amount.

Perhaps it would aid us in evaluating these two plans (that might become part of one compromise) to actually KNOW how much each will cost.

Frankly, I'm washing my hands of this one. There's just no way a compromise is possible.
