This is what the Obama Administration is saying to anyone who says if they were president they could lower the price of gas.
Jay Carney said the administration will try to "mitigate the effects" of high gas prices, but they don't want to talk about lowering prices and he also said anyone else who says they can get prices back down is lying.
Well folks, as long as Obama is president forget about lower gas prices. He's not gonna even try to deal with it. Just get used to it. That is what they're saying. He can't do anything about it and don't ask him to lift a finger to try.
If they're talking like this during an election year imagine what's coming next year once he figures he doesn't have to answer to the voters anymore. Trust me, come next year we are really in for it.

If we get in a situation where we have used most of our oil, we can re invade Iraq. They should be ready for us by then. We should have used Iraq as a big American gas station after the first invasion.
We shouldn't be burning nothing but Iraqi oil. You know what an Iraqi pays for a gallon of gas? Something like .25 cents a litre. That should be our oil. IMO. What other reason was there to invade?

Streamline the application process so it doesn't take 5-7 years to start producing from a well like it does today.
Fire the Energy Secretary. Get someone in there that isn't hoping for $10 /gal gas.

Higher gas prices impact other countries less because they have better mass transit systems, etc.
The USA was designed around cheap gas and we have fought all attempts at improving mass transit.

But good planning on the oil companies parts. It is why they bought up light rail systems and such long ago and shut them down.
The problem isn't supply and demand, the problem is speculation.
As long as Iran and Israel are rattling the sabers, speculation is going to remain high.
The fact that India and China are increasing their demand doesn't help matters much, either.
What we need is a long term plan that will include more production, more alternative sources, etc.

Obama is appealing to his voting base. He needs the environmentally conscious to be on the reservation this November. These are mostly urban and suburban white moderates who were guilted into voting for Obama in 2008. Most of them will look at their falling home values and blame Obama. But if Obama can appeal to their tree hugging leanings, he may just get them back in November.
Obama doesn't give a shit about the environment. He wants to be re-elected. Obama will od whatever it takes to achieve that goal.

The truth is that 2% oil reserves figure is whatever the government says it is.
Heres the official definition from the non-partisan Congressional Research service.
Proven reserves are: "certainty to be recoverable in future years from known reservoirs under existing economic and operating conditions."
The key word there is "existing" conditions.
"But much of the oil is off limits thanks to the policies of this President:
-The outer Continental shelf.
-The Arctic National Wildlife Reserve in Anwar.
-And Shale Oil where the United States has the largest deposits in the world estimated by the government to be over 2 trillion barrels.
Even when the production is not in this country, the President will do anything he can to stop it, like blocking the Keystone pipeline.
Also, what the President is refusing to acknowledge is the United States is in the middle of an oil boom thanks to new technology like deep-water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
So the President needs to stop with the 2% lie.
