Obama, Republicans reach deal to extend tax cuts, unemployment benefits

Here again you have cons lying about what the GOP did then refusing to comment once they are proven wrong.

The GOP held our entire congress hostage to get the wealthy a tax cut.

how fucking much money do we have to borrow to let 50% of americans pay zero federal income tax each year? How much money do we have to fucking borrow to accomplish that?[/size

That came about as a result of the two Bush tax cuts that were

1. not affordable, and

2. not necessary.

Not affordable By what measure? Deficits? Compared to whose?

lol, you just made my point.

Not affordable because they resulted in DEFICITS. When you reduce revenue below the point where it not enough to pay the bills, then you have made an UNAFFORDABLE cut in taxes.

George Bush had a surplus in 2001. He specifically said he was cutting taxes because he wanted to get rid of the surplus, in other words,

he preferred to push us back into a deficit situation rather than pay down ANY of our debt.

Deficits were in decline until Democrats controlled Congress in 2007.

The country was thrown into war in 2001.

Then why did Bush and the Republicans pass a SECOND tax cut in 2003 if we had 2 wars to pay for?

They thought it would help keep the economy from crashing and were running what THEY considered a "manageable" defecit. Which Obama the last congress that is lame ducking right now has increased 4 fold to a point that is not manageable

The middle class tax cuts will cost three times what the tax cuts for upper income earners will cost.

Are the middle class tax cuts paid for?

Bush's deficts went into decline in 2005, until Democrats controlled Congress in 2007. Unemployment remained about half what it is now.

Obama got double what the tax cuts on upper income earners cost in new entitlements.

You couldn't give us those actual numbers, could you?

Here's what we know...both the tax cut extention and the unemployment extention are going to be paid for by BORROWING money.

It would be nice to know how much each event is really going to cost.

Yeah the old but they borrowed more than we did whine?

in my opinion the extended unimp benefits will help those in need, the upper crust tax cuts will help those who do not need it.

Both are true statements.

The Democrats in Congress, if you want to play this game, took the majority inheriting 2 unpaid for wars, an unpaid for Medicare drug bill - the largest expansion of government healthcare since the sixties - and a slowing economy that was beginning to generate less tax revenue.

The part you put in bold is why I disagree with and do not support this action.

And the republicans inherited a burst tech bubble and lax international intelligence and lax security against terrorist attacks at home.

We can keep going all the way back to england with this if you want.

There's no such thing as a manageable deficit. That's the equivalent of someone with a massive credit card balance deciding that their new definition of financial responsibility will be to add to that balance at a slower rate.

I am astounded day by day to find out how much more fiscally conservative I am than 99% of the self-proclaimed conservatives on this board.

Exactly what was the problem with those tax cuts?
