A New York City police officer described as a “young man with a bright future” and a man he was trying to arrest were both shot and killed during a struggle early Sunday in the Bronx, police said.

The New York City Police Department identified the slain officer as Brian Mulkeen, 33, who has been with the department for nearly seven years.

...the 27-year-old suspect who was also armed. Monahan told reporters the suspect, who has not yet been identified, had several prior arrests and was on probation until 2022 for a narcotics-related offense last year. His criminal history included a burglary conviction in Rockland County, according to police.

From your link, Desir: "Monahan told reporters the suspect, who has not yet been identified, had several prior arrests and was on probation until 2022 for a narcotics-related offense last year. His criminal history included a burglary conviction in Rockland County, according to police."

It's even more horrific if the parole given to an armed assailant should be zero. Armed offenders repeat in nothing flat even though they swear up and down to the parole board deciders they'll be good. It just doesn't work out with as high a recidivism rate that armed robbers tend to experience. Lying, cheating, and stealing with armaments to frighten victims seem to be bloodbrothers forever. Just my humble opinion.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Brian Mulkeen.

Yes agree...
When will the law understand upon what it is that they are dealing with in these bad situations that are now being created for them by these dirty politicians ???? They must proceed with extreme caution today...The people need to be extremely careful not to vote in leftist sheriffs that cripple their police departments in the worse ways imaginable, and destroy communities by the dozens due to political correctness gone very wrong.. Thinking that human behaviour can be caused or blamed on the good majority in this country has became a leftist con job in this country.

All one has to do is look with their own eyes, and listen with their own ears as to what is considered normal these days, even when there is proof that if one does this or does that, then there are negative consequences to the actions of people. Ignoring such things don't make them somehow better or good, it just sets up the next poor soul for the fall. It's how the evil one wants it right ? Get two birds with one stone ??

A number of close friends in law enforcement. Leftist stupidity has made their jobs go from dangerous to suicidal in the past decade.

Especially in California where burglaries are all but legal now.

Everywhere.

There are no consequences. The mantra has been that everyone in poverty is somehow a criminal caught in the legal system. Everyone that is black is somehow a criminal caught in the legal system. This isn't true.

So, what do we have? We have risk assessments based on algorithms. That aren't successful and don't go far enough. People would have to actually pay attention to that instead of spending their time screaming about how unfair it all is.

Crap. The Annie E. Casey Foundation got involved in juvenile delinquency, ran their own numbers and started hitting policy.
