No one recognizes it, which is part of the point.

It is the Flag of the Cherokee Nation.

Now that you've said what it is, I would think of the Trail of Tears and the book Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee.

Are you in the west or east?

They took the whole Cherokee nation
Put us on this reservation
Took away our ways of life
The tomahawk and the bow and knife
Took away our native tongue
And taught their English to our young
And all the beads we made by hand
Are nowadays made in Japan

Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
So proud to live, so proud to die

They took the whole Indian nation
Locked us on this reservation
Though I wear a shirt and tie
I’m still part redman deep inside

Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
So proud to live, so proud to die

But maybe someday when they learn
Cherokee nation will return, will return, will return, will return,
will return

So the point is....

The Cherokee did not have flags, it is a white man thing not a Native American thing. The Cherokee were civilized early in the development of the US and the forced movement (Trail of Tears) by Jackson was against a civilized people and an abomination. They lived in peace in the east with the white man and were stabbed in the back. It formed a pattern of behavior for years to come of breaking treaties and treatment of Native Americans.
